Any advice?

So I've been trying to work my abs but I've been having some major problems due to the weight around my middle. It's this very area I want to tone and burn off but it's proving to be difficult to isolate these muscles. Does anyone have some good ideas that have worked for them? What are some ways any one with this issue has managed to work around it to hone their abs?

N exercise will make the fat go away from that area. Only diet can do that. Your body picks where it loses fat from when and targeting a specific area won't move that along. That being said, planks are a fabulous exercise. Also, do big compound lifts like squats, deadlifts, over head press, bench and bent over rows. Your core will be actively engaged, and it will get strengthened.0

Just keep eating at a deficit. I'm the same, it's always the last place to go - just genetics.0

You can't target where you lose weight. All over fat loss is the only answer.
Keep up a routine of all-over strength and conditioning exercise.
Also, people with the apple shape do well on a lowered carb plan. All that weight in the middle is the result of too much sugar and carbs. Make sure you are getting plenty of protein, and fats. You can start by cutting out sugar as much as possible. Limit fruit to a couple servings a day, same with "extra" carbs like rolls, cereal, crackers. Stay within your sugar and carbohydrate limits in your food diary here, and keep exercising. Think of the protein and fat settings here as MINIMUMS, as goals to reach. Think of the carbs setting as an absolute maximum0 -
Thank you for all the advice. I think I may have worded it wrong. Sadly, I know I can't control where the weight is lost I'm just hoping to strengthen the muscles more in some areas than others. It's just frustrating when I try and do a crunch and it doesn't seem to do a hell of a lot haha. I'll give all the advice a shot. Thank you!0

Eat at a deficit and lift heavy. I recommend the New RUles for Lifting for Women. Great read with nutrition advice and 6 months of weight workouts.0

Just stick with it! I find that crunches pretty much suck but if you want to build up your core strength that plank is a great way to do so. It builds your entire core muscles rather then just the abs like a crunch would do. If you feel really gung-ho maybe toss in a few pushups- Might be a process to get there but that's ok too! The first time I tried to lose weight it took about 25 pounds off before I even really noticed a difference. This time around I've noticed my body shape is definately changing for the better much faster.0

I concur with other postings. Eat at a deficit: Target for protein and healthy fat should be minimum. Target for carbs should be maximum. I also wanted to strenghtened "core" area. It took me months. Be patient. Lots of "total body" exercises helped. I only do crunches over a medicine ball with a maximum of two sets of 10 a week. I personally do not find crunches very effective to strengthened my core. Eating clean is essential. Good luck.0
