***EVERYONE READ PLEASEEEE!****

Wow.
I know it's frustrating to those who've been around a while to read blanket statements like the original post, but let's not beat up the new kid.
I think she was really excited because she thought she had something to share. She was wrong. Really, really wrong. It was very kind of those who posted links to helpful threads. But some of the other posts are bordering on bully-ism.
It's the rest of us dunderheads who actually read it knowing it wouldn't end well that should be beaten up!
My new rule is if the topic headline contains caps, asterisks, or any other kind of punctuation, the words Everyone, Read or Please in any order, and if any of the words are unnaturally elongated with extra letters, I'm staying clear.0 -

DITTO!! Folks went here with their claws out. Some tired of repeats, some needing to show that they 'knew the right answer' and were waiting for someone to dare to cross their path. Even after the initial replies outlining the error of the post others had to add the same reguritated crap over and over again, quoting folks who already ripped this poor person up. I realize I quoted someone here (please don't hurt me). Why is it that people in so-called communities like this are so rude and dehumaized when they don't have to look someone in the face. Take a look at yourselves and your posts, are your proud of your actions here? What would you tell your child if you looked over their shoulder while they were 'ripping someone a new one'? And for what? Because this person wanted to joing your little clic? Grow up or get out!!0 -
I'm sure that the OP meant well, but we all need to take what we know and use our own minds. that's what it boils down to.0

This post, among other ones that have got many irritable comments about the same thing being posted over and over is a VERY good example of why a tutorial or some kind of more in depth explanation of how the site works should be part of the sign up requirements.
Most people would just skip over it like a "terms of Agreement" clause....
Possibly so...however at least we would all be justified in our SIGH, Not again!, Please do a search, etc. etc. I know I would have read it.0 -
I don't think anyone on here was being dehumanizing. Please understand that there is already sufficient information on here about this subject. For those of us who have been on here for a while, these posts are a constant annoyance. There is nothing wrong with telling someone that. I say it to peoples faces when they are looking for an easy way to lose weight.
IMO, its dangerous to come on to any site and make statements that are unsupported. If I went onto an auto mechanics site and posted that it is no longer necessary to change your oil, I'd be ridiculed. Especially if I didn't provide any supporting evidence other than the person who told me to tell everyone.
We here at MFP are passionate about healthy weightloss.
The OP was telling alot of people that what they are doing is wrong. People reacted. Thats how it goes. If you can't handle the reaction, don't make the statement to begin with.
Sorry.0 -
One helpful repsonse is helpful, everything after that was an attack. Accept it.0

I hope the OP didn't take my post as irritation with them. It's not. It's irritation with thier nutrionist. LOL0

The title of the post did read "EVERYONE read please"...so therefore, I think everyone read and responded. And I think many of us were being helpful in finding information that maybe the nutritionist didnt know (such as the deficit MFP already gives) and directing her to find information that would help her when she goes back to her nutritionist.0

I don't wish to belabor this point. Those who came here looking for a fight for whatever reason know who you are. Those who came to help you know who you are too. Those who came to fight could learn something from the latter group.
Treat people with a little bit of diginity, compassion and acceptance. This site belongs to everyone. No one should be treated like garbage.
Now go and have a safe and happy easter, maybe no one will be mean to you this weekend.0 -
I am already eating 1200 calories a day to lose weight and most days I burn at least 500 calories exercising. This would leave me with a total of 700 calories a day if I do not eat any of my exercise calories. If you watch biggest loser when one of the contestants slow down losing weight and have upped their workout intensity they are told to eat more. Weight Watchers (which I have done in the past) suggests you use 1/2 of your calories (points) earned the day you burn them. I too went to :flowerforyou: a nutritionist and she said if you do not get enough calories into your body it can cause a starvation response and your body will hold on to weight as a protection. I do not eat all of my exercise calories but I do eat some of them. Personally I have noticed my weight loss is much more consistent when I get enough calories and nutrition. Previously before starting my program it would take me six months to lose 20 pounds. Since I have addressed my nutrition needs I have lost almost 21 pounds in 10 weeks.0

I'm sure that my post is one of the ones that you felt was unkind - and you're right, it was. I reacted... unkindly.
This discussion has been had SOOO many times and from the original post, it was clear that the OP had read some of those discussions... and therefore had read the answers to those posts about WHY you should eat the exercise calories. My frustration and reaction came from ... the title, the fact that it was one more discussion of exercise calories, the blanket statement that "they're wrong, haha" and the absolute lack of knowledge that the nutritionist must have to make such a blanket statement.
When I first joined MFP... I was desperate. I had tried everything and I had failed. So I came here as a student... I read what others, who had had success were doing. I asked questions (really... I'm not opposed to someone asking questions).. and I asked more questions until I understood. What I didn't do... is argue that something was wrong. I think most people who come to MFP have tried on their own and failed... why then, do people come here and expect to do what they've always done and get different results? If I KNEW EVERYTHING about weight loss (and trust me at one point I THOUGHT I did) - then I would be thin and healthy!
OP - I sincerely apologize for THE WAY that I expressed my opinion and frustration. I can't say that it wasn't my intent to be offensive - at that moment, it probably was. I usually have a much better "firewall" and simply hit the back button or try to come come across in a more positive manner. After a long week and a lot of frustration... I vented in this thread this morning... inappropriately. Please accept my apology. And seriously, talk to your nutritionist about how the site works!0 -
I've been on MFP since Oct 2008 with almost 1500 posts and you can't even begin to imagine how frustrating it is to see the same thing OVER and OVER and OVER again. Should I eat my exercise calories..........Heart rate monitors........sports bras.....greek yogurt....etc. etc. etc. The list goes on and on and on.
BUT........
That's the nature of a message board with people that are constantly new. Be happy that these people are here to make a positive chage about their life. Should the use they search function more often? YES. Should they read the posted topics at the top of the message boards? YES.
We need to be a little bit more lenient to these people. Back in the day I would've jumped down the OP's throat too but it's just not worth it to me anymore. It's a message board. Nothing to get excited or irritated over.
I come on here to help people with their injuries and give some guidance to those who choose to ask for it. That's it.:flowerforyou:0 -

I stand firm in my opinion that multiple people can respond to a post with corrected information and the resposes still be respectful enough. Just because many people respond does NOT mean the OP is being "attacked." I simply cannot understand where you're coming from with that. And I honestly don't understand why you feel the need to continuously post about it in such an instigating way. Just because people disagree doesn't mean there is any disrespect.
I agree that many people responded out of frustration without being most helpful, but such is life. I had a guy double flip me off for over a minute in traffic yesterday because he was in the same lane as me behind me on an exit lane off of the interstate during rush hour & decided he wanted to be in front of me (I was essentially on the bumper of the car in front of me -- there was no room for him to get over at all) so he floored it around me trying to cut me off & I refused to slow down just to let him over. Was I the jerkface in that scenario? No, emphatically not, yet I was still the one who got the bird. LIFE. It sucks, but it is what it is.
I responded with the insight I wanted to share. I feel I did so in a respectful way (though I'm not entirely convinced the OP even deserved respect with a post that essentially said "Hey all you dummies, you've been doing this wrong. Including even those of you who've lost significant amounts of weight -- yeah, you have no idea what you're talking about"). But, that's beyond the point, I suppose.0
