I raised my calories..

By a few hundred due to a plateau on the advice of a few people I trust. How long does it normally take for the weight to start going down again? 2 weeks? more? How long should I allow it to creep back up before I realize this was a mistake and reduce cals again?

Give any change you make 4-6 weeks.

You almost sound like you've already decided it's a mistake.

Are you just randomly upping them by a few hundred, or did you use a calculator to determine your BMR and TDEE and set your goal that way?

I did that for awhile with the random numbers, then found this topic: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/654536-in-place-of-a-road-map-2-0-revised-7-2-12

Best move I ever made - figured my numbers, reset everything manually here at MFP, and I've been doing great ever since - almost a year now.

    ^^^ Good Advice...

Always give it a few weeks, (Of really sticking to it). You can do it. Plateau's is just our body's way of dress rehearsing for when we reach our goals ;-)

Don't stress! You should give it a month and then re-evaluate. Good luck!!

that is where I got it from originally, then discussed it with some other people who know more about it than I do

I upped mine on my plateau of almost 2 months, and I started losing again after about 2 1/2 weeks. Losing steadily now. It's scary at first, but it works. My advice, don't weigh for 2 whole weeks. I am an every day scale person, and I stopped it for the 2 weeks after increasing my calories, and my first weigh in was 4 pounds down. It really does help.
