Turning 50 and not happy with my weight

I'm turning 50 in a few months and in the last few years have inched to over 200 lbs. Not happy about this and need to make some permanent changes in my behavior. Just bought a smart phone, a fit bit, moved the wii to a better location, started working out at lunch and started here. Hoping these help me to keep on track. Willing to make new and supportive friends. :)

Feel free to add me. I'm on daily, track daily and my diary is open. I'm also 50 and spikes at 215 before I stumbled on to MFP. I've dropped 27 lbs. since.

Using the Wii is a great start, and moving it to a more accessible location is a great sign.

Best thing is to get some good, motivating friends on this site, start eating healthier, homemade food (so you know exactly whats in it), and workout - whether its the Wii, Kinect, Gym or walking, exercise is exercise when it comes down to it, its betters to create a space for exercise in your everyday life than to go extreme and change everything at once and then it may only last for a few weeks....

Yeah, I know the feeling. I am 5'1" and weighed 160 at my heaviest. 8 months before I turned 50 I had a stroke. Yep, who has a stroke at 49? I Had spent my whole life eating as I pleased, doing very little exercise (though I have always had a physical job) smoking and over indulging in alcohol on the weekends. Then IT happened. Now, I am 51, weigh 127 exercise over an hour a day and run almost two miles a day. Before my stroke I couldn't run to my mail box which is about 60 feet away. I still have to take meds for high blood pressure, but have reduced them to half and my cholesterol is the best it has ever been. DO THIS FOR YOU. It may be the most important decision of your life. If you are looking for friends, feel free to send a request.

Hello suziqhomaker. I am 47, will be 50 before I turn around twice and was not at all happy with my weight either. Feel free to add me and we can encourage one another. MFP is a great place to find encouragement, weight loss ideas, etc. We are all in the same boat whether we have 100+ pounds to lose (like myself) or 20 lbs. We still have to make the changes. We all can do it!
  • Cool. I am 41. 6'1" and weighed in at 205 after a recent vacation. I have a suggested calorie intake of 2060. Been doing great with coming in under...drinking lots of water. Steadily losing weight. I hope to have success as I wish for you too!
