brand new to site, looking for walking companion

:smile: Hi Guys my name is Stuart. I am 50 years old and have been morbidly obese for the past 10 years. Have started losing weight for the first time in over 13 years. Have lost about 15kg since the 1st January. Feeling heaps better, but still have so much to lose. Starting to struggle for motivation. Getting sore and demaotvated. Spend a LOT of time on my own and that is how I got so overweight in the first place. looking for a walking, riding companion to keep me motivated and hopefully in turn motivate the companion/s. I live north of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Feel free to leave a response if interested in being a walking, exercise companion. Just to let you know. Don't expect me to do any power walking. I plan to do a little more each day, but have to take it easy. Just looking to improve slowly, so as not to cause too many aches and pains, that will force me to stop moving altogether. Good luck to all those on the same journey. Its a tough one, but with support from others, i'm sure we can all get there.

    hey Stuart,
    I live on the other side of the world to you so can't walk with you; but I've been walking every day now since Jan 5th, and feel SOOOOO much better for it;
    it is the old story; eat a little less, walk a little more
    I started at 20 minutes, yesterday I did 6 miles & feel great
    so I'll be walking in spirit with you, stick at it!!
  • G'day cliffy thanks for your positive response. Yeah I have been trying to do the same thing. Didn't walk today though, so bloody hot here at the moment and if hot weather and morbid obesity weren't already motivational deterrents to exercise, a sore foot on top was the final dterrent. I did get on a stationary bike for 30 minutes though. So I am gald I did that at least. The longest walks I have done since I started early January, have been 60 minutes. I expect I walk a distance of approximately 5-6 kilometres in that time. But don't walk that long everyday. Oh and I have been eating a lot less food than I have been eating for the past 13+ years. So the scales are slowly going in the right direction. Hoping to slowly, slowly increase the amount of exercise i do.

    hi there, if you go into groups there is one called Aussie Aussie Aussie, hopefully you may be able to find a walking companion in there who lives close by

    Hi Stuart, I too am on the wrong side of the planet, and my work causes challenges for me to exercise regularly. However, the biggest motivation for me to get out and walk was getting a puppy for the family!! My wife and kids all chip in with walking and looking after him, so if you are on your own, it is not a decision to be taken lightly. However, for motivation to get out and walk there is nothing better! Also, here in the UK it is a great way of meeting people!

    Good luck!!

    Hi Stuart,

    I used to live in Victoria (mainly Melb) for close to 20 years then moved to Launceston four years ago.
    While I can't go walking or riding with you, I would be more than happy for you to 'friend' me should you be looking for online support.
    kind regards,

    Ben
