Homemade meal

So my friend is making boeuf bourguignon tonight. I see some meals in the database. But how do you know if the calories are way off? What do you guys do when you eat something that doesn't have a nutrition label on it?

I enter all the ingredients as a 'recipe', and it gives me the data for the food.

Well, unless you are going to prepare all your meals from scratch for the rest of your life, this is going to happen frequently.

Only so much accuracy is possible. Life is that way. Keep doing the best you can. It will work out.

Ask for your friend's recipe & create a recipe here. If I can't get the recipe, I pick the highest cal choice in the database.

It is difficult if someone else is cooking - I've the exact same issue tonight.

I know my friend is making a Sunday roast beef dinner - so I've looked on the database and there are lots on there, restaurant meals and MFP members own entries. I've just picked one of the higher calories entries for a restaurant chain - it'll be more or less right, and picking one of the higher calorie entries gives me a bit of leeway.

Go with the highest calorie item and add a bit extra to your serving. And enjoy that bad boy, YUM!

I'm going with the "put the highest calorie" option. Don't think he'll give me the recipe. Thanks.
