Totally new and almost no idea how to commit to this...

At 24yrs, 5ft 7in, and 260lbs, something's gotta give, and preferably the weight and now, not the heart/pancreas later.
I know commitment is all in your head, but I've got so much gunk surrounding health/weight loss in my head, that I'm not sure where to start anymore. I'm trying calorie counting (hence why I'm here -- did it briefly last year and it did work), but I get stumped where I cook my own food and then have to figure the calories for it (largely because I'm a flunk at math and generally eyeball my recipes anyway). I can handle breakfast and lunch and watching it there, but I flub when supper rolls around. That and low-calorie food is generally not what my hubby eats... Thank god we have no children yet, because he's picky enough for two of them! I've also acquired a huge sweet tooth that I'm working on conquering.
I just need tips and any help or support anyone wants to provide. I'm working on a schedule to follow for exercise, and I'm trying to get my hubby to do some things with me (I have that sheep mentality and need the physical support as much as the mental). We're going for a walk tonight (start small, right?).

I had troubles with this in the beginning too... I started 20lbs heavier than i am now.. and got down to 40lbs lower than my start.. anyway, I bought one of the Weight Watchers cookbooks.. not for the points aspect of it.. but it gave you a calorie break down.. and alot of the meals were really good..my boyfriend would eat them too... actually I bought a few other cookbooks that gave those counts, and it helped..
I still have a hard time but I find that those books help to know exactly what I'm eating and not have to do the math myself..

Remember to take all of this one step at a time. Make small changes, and healthy choices. It'll balance out. Do things that make you feel healthier and the rewards will stay with you and make it easier when you make further changes.
Play around with, say, roasting vegetables and meat for dinner. Those can be very healthy choices and you can make meals that taste great. Look at how you can flavor things (I use Indian and Thai recipes for inspiration) to keep your dinners interesting.
You can build your own recipes on this site, by the way. You can enter in the ingredients and the site will calculate the calories for you. I'm a fairly free spirited chef and eye ball ingredients as well, so I know the calorie count is just approximate. But +/- five-ten calories isn't going to sabotage my efforts.0 -
Small starts are great.... I've started walking a bit more and will try and do some other bits. Even if its just a go on the Wii fit or some crunches or anything !
I love tfe recipi section with the app that breaks down the calories. With kids and the husband It's s lifesaver.

I agree with making small changes. You can also google "proper portion sizes" for an eyeballs glance at the right serving sizes of things. Replace calorie laden beverages with water. Go with the whole foods approach as much as possible.0

Im starting by taking a Fit and Wellness class through my local community college. Im doing the 6 wk body makeover and Couch to 5k training program. I really need a workout partner to help motivate me. My fiance is small and naturally cut and doesnt understand the work and dedication its going to take to lose these 60 lbs his only encouragement is i love you regardless....LOL0

The most important thing is to deal with your addiction to sweet things. How are you going to start tackling that?0
