Does Biotin make you gain weight?

There are some drugs and medical conditions that can cause weight gain, but biotin is not one of them. It is not a hormone and is water soluble so excess is excreted. There is no physiological mechanism for weight gain or water retention with biotin.4

Yes Biotin is definitely a weght gainer for me. I'm naturally a small 55 year old woman. A size 6 in juniors. After starting 10,000 Biotin every day for a year, i have blown up to a size 14 in women. I'm not taking any type medication. I tried to diet and exercise to get the weight off without success. I did a full check up with my primary Doctor. Everything came back fine. I stopped taking Biotin 3 weeks ago and I've lost 8 pounds.0

This is a very old thread. But that aside: Did you eat substantially less every day? Like 1300 calories less than your maintenance calories per day? If not then it was mostly water. There's no scientific evidence that biotin causes weight gain or more hunger in any way. It's just a watersolluble b-vitamin. The more likely explanation is less movement as you got older and eating too much. Not sure how much weight you gained within a year and what your starting weight at the beginning of that wear was, but this just is the most likely explanation.
Stick around, learn, slowly lose the weight again.1 -

Here's a recent thread by a woman about your age who was struggling to lose weight and then started using a food scale.

LOL the last two days I actually measured my food and that was a real eye opener so it really could be diet related! Thanks again!0 -

Super old thread, but Biotin is just vitamin B7...it doesn't cause weight gain. It's found in all kinds of foods like eggs, bananas, milk, etc.1
