bmr confusion?

I had my bmr figured out at my gym by breathing into a tube. The fitness trainer/ nutritonist told me it was 1545. she then told me to eat 1245-1545 to lose weight and 1545 and 2045 to maintain weight. But all the posts on here say to never eat under your bmr.?? Its very confusing.

If your BMR is that then your TDEE is likely to be around 2000 depending on activity levels.

She is saying you should be aiming for 2lb/week loss (1000cals/day) which is only suitable for people with a lot of weight to lose. If you are close to goal weight then 1lb/week should be the target. (and therefore you would eat around your bmr)

Use some formulas to get estimates too. None will be 100% but I'd take the average of all of them.
  • I have to lose 17 pounds. I am 5 ft 4 and weigh 142 pounds and would like to get to 125.

I don't know why a nutritionist would be telling you to eat below your BMR. That's the absolute minimum amount of calories your body needs to function, and anything below that is not sustainable (and frankly, it's just not fun to eat that little)

You should be eating above your BMR, but below your TDEE. 17lbs isn't that much to lose, so only a 10-15% reduction from your TDEE should be necessary. If your TDEE 2045, then you should be eating 1740 to 1840 calories.

Edited because my clumsy fingers can't type well on a phone.
