Balancing calories

Does anyone have any problems eating the right calories for each food group? I tend to keep eating too much protien and sugar (fruits) and way too low in the carbs. Then my bigger problem is I am not eating enough calories in total and when I close out for the day the same message keeps coming up that I am eating way too few calories and I may go into starvation mode. I am not hungry and can't eat any more.Maybe I am drinking too much water (usually 10 to 12 glasses a day) I work out everyday between the gym and pool. Has anyone else had this problem? I would really appreciate some thoughts. Thank you.

    From personal experience:

i wanted to gain quite a bit of weight, and took an aggressive approach by setting my goal at 4500 cals a day, when i'd usually eat around 2200. I've noticed as i was easing into it (bumping up portions a little bit every day) my body started adapting and if i'd eat less than the huge portions by the end, i would feel hungry.
From this, i'd suggest trying slowly easing into the desired calorie count by increasing food portions.

As for your troubles with specific macros, i've collected a few habits over the years of trying to balance them. Here are some foods to consider for balancing them:
milk - about equal amounts of carbs and protein, then just pick fat % that you need.
cottage cheese - you can find cottage cheese with 1:2 carbs to protein, i even found 1:3. and same as milk, just find the fat % that you need
nuts - great source of fats and a quite a bit of protein
    fruits - carbs (sugars)
    pasta, rice, potatos - carbs
    avocado - fats

    hope this helps a bit
  • Yes it does. Thank you. I guess I just need to eat the foods with more carbs. I always thought it was the carbs that added the weight I'll try what you suggested. Again thank you and good luck.

I wouldn't worry about the sugar -I usually just have a large serving of berries in the morning and this puts me over on sugar. I'm always over on my fat and under on my carbs but I'm not too fussed.
