What kind of fish can I replace canned tuna with?

I'm looking to replace canned tuna in my diet because I eat it most days of the week, which isn't a great thing because of the mercury. I'm looking to replace it with something on a similar level (low fat, high protein, omega 3, etc) but without the mercury levels and that's safe enough to be eaten pretty regularly.

Something that's similar in price per weight would be great.

I do not like canned chicken.

Canned salmon or steelhead? And does it have to be canned? After it is cooked, fish stays pretty fresh through the week.

How do you usually eat your tuna?
  • I usually eat my tuna canned. It's usually just the reduced sodium Chicken of the Sea in water.

I wouldn't mind baking it or cooking it myself. It's just canned is pretty convenient for me and easy for my husband to pick up at the grocery store.

I'm just looking for good fish that's usually a decent price to replace because I've heard that eating too much tuna is bad for you because of the mercury. I usually eat a can per day, which is why I'm looking for a replacement fish.
