CalRopes vs. Gym Strength Training

I try to be in the gym at least 5 times / week.
3 - strength training on isolated muscle groups and cardio
1 - strength training all groups
1 - interval cardio

Since I completed this before yesterday, I thought I'd get a ropes workout in with my brother, who's been doing this for about a month and a half.

I am in a world of hurt today!

But my question is, is either one necessarily better?

Thoughts would be appreciated.

  • I don't know about calropes, so you tell me if it allows for full body training and long term progressive overload
  • Neither is better.
Strength is exactly that, it's for endurance and strength, but for calorie burning you need some cardio, and it helps to have the cardio to get your blood flowing to your muscle groups.

I use cardio work as the warmup to the strength training and have found it effective in the past.

When I've tried ropes, I loved them. They left my muscles aching. But I can't see how they can be a replacement for heavy lifting, any more than circuit training would be.

Personally, I'd drop any isolated muscle training and do compound lifts, the ropes training, and high intensity intervals for the cardio.

I do isolated groups, but mainly because that's how i was trained by my old aikido and gung fu instructors. They taught me to not neglect anything and some workout parts are compound, but specific groups were worked for specific reason.

I only just now started back to the practices after a 14 year plus absence. jumping ropes is part of what I'm headed into, although I'm waiting on it until the second cycle. Oh, forgot that part...the training is in 12 cycles.

I think you have no idea what CalRopes are.
