I want to lower my salt intake and not sure how to do it. I was looking at my food diary and I like to have two eggs fixed in pam and it has 278mg of salt how is that possable?

I have the same problem. I eat Franks Red Hot Sauce on darn near everything and the 460mg per TBSP. I eat several tablespoons per meal. Not to mention I usually add salt to everything I eat as well. I guess I'm not help but hey you aren't alone!0

It's not been entered right in the database, it probably has 278mg of sodium, 140 for the eggs and the rest for the pam, whatever that is :flowerforyou:
ETA: If you're looking to cut down sodium I'd suggest the popcorn chicken be the first thing to remove from your diary0 -
Eggs naturally have some sodium.
That sodium content (278 mg) is actually pretty low for 2 eggs.0 -
My dr. informed me that I can have as much as 1500 mg of salt daily. I do not use salt at all when preparing eggs.....I use something called No Salt (costs about $4 but it has some flavor though it takes getting used to). There are lots of ways to limit salt contents in your diet. No processed foods, no canned soups (even the low sodium ones have tons of sodium!).............Don't add salt to your dishes and use lots of different spices.........You can't eliminate sodium entirely from your diet, but you can easily bring it down to 1500 daily or less if need be.0

natural sodium in eggs isn't something you should worry about. get rid of the big sodium items, like processed foods, smoked meats or cheeses.0

I do one completly salt-free day per week. Probably that works for you too.0

I can help here. I was diagnosed with high blood pressure last April, and my doctor told me to keep the sodium below 2500 mg per day. First thing I did was to start paying attention to the sodium content in everything I ate. MFP is most helpful with this. Holy cow, no wonder I had high blood pressure! I was eating 7000 to 9000 mg per day! If you read labels while shopping, you will notice that different brands have different amounts of sodium in them. Of course, you can't add table salt to anything. And some things you just can't eat anymore. I was absolutely GUTTED to give up eating dill pickles. I like them right out of the jar...but check out the sodium content. I thought it would be really hard, because I was a self-declared salt-o-holic. I can pass up a box of chocolates, but not a bag of potato chips. My doctor told me that it was an acquired taste, and that I would adjust. Wow. How right she was. Within a week, I was a happy, sodium-free camper. And now I can really taste when something has too much salt in it, and I don't like it. Good luck!!! This will be easier than you may think! (Trust me, I do not have a lot of willpower.)0

Just FYI there is not good science showing that sodium is bad. There is a link in SOME individuals with hypertension. Even in these individuals limiting sodium only lowers BP by 5-10%.

If you are concerned about sodium intake because you want to see the scale move down a few pounds, then you are concerned about the wrong things0 -
Some foods naturally have sodium in them that you can't avoid, but there are ways to cut back.
Canned, processed & a lot of frozen foods have a LOT of sodium. This is what I did....first of all, buy fresh food, not processed, &
read labels!! Frozen fruits and veggies are OK, if there isn't a bunch of sauce and cheese added to it.
If you buy canned veggies, purchase the kind that are labeled low sodium and/or rinse them before using.
Don't purchase any canned soup, frozen dinners (healthy or not). Lots of sodium there.
Beef jerky is high in sodium, as is most all preserved foods.
Pickles, cottage cheese, any cheese for that matter, popcorn, prepared rice, some mustards, salad dressings, the list goes on..
Fast food & restaurant food has astonishing amts of sodium in them. Applebees has 'under 550' calorie meals but some of them have as much as 3,000mg of sodium! Ask for any sauces on the side and add just enough for flavor, if you desire.
I had to start cooking from scratch. That is pretty much the only way to really have control. It's a pain and sometimes I feel like I just don't have the time, but my health is worth it. I have found out though, that I can actually TASTE food and I prefer the flavor of fresh cooked vegetables, herbs, spices and lemon/orange zest over sodium.0 -

I really noticed this when I was putting together some recipes in the MFP recipe builder. Not all brands are created equal.
Take for instance Fat Free Cream Cheese. Philidelphia FF Cream cheese has 240 calories and 1680mg sodium in an 8oz package. Walmart - Great Value brand FF Cream Cheese has 240 calories and 1360mg sodium in an 8oz package. That is a pretty significant difference.
That being said, I really pay attention to labels and compare more than just calorie content.0 -

I still havent found any convincing evidence either, unless you have a proven salt sensitivity. I love my salf! I think if you combine it with adequate hydration that it is safe. In fact, salt might be the only thing to save a person from overhydration especially when drinking a lot for weight loss. I cant eat an egg without salf and find that as my portion sizes decrease my sodium increases. Until I find it detrimental and I'm unable to adequately hydrate myself or I have a diagnosis of hypertensive salt sensitivity. I will continue to love my salt! Gonna sprinkle some beautiful himilayan salt on my salad tonight.
But if you are cutting out salt it is the hardest thing to remove from your diet. It is in everything both added and naturally! For fun look up cottage cheese my mind was blown away.0
