Study abroad, anyone?

I'm going to be in Guatemala for 6 weeks and I'm concerned about nutrition and exercise. I'll be staying with a host family, so I won't be in charge of my meals, and I'll be away from my elliptical and workout DVDs. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

    Yes, a few times.

Use healthy eating techniques. Such as take a bite, put utensil down and chew. take a drink of water. repeat. You'll eat less and your body will tell you when you're full.

Take a bite of anything offered, but don't eat til you're sick. Your family will find it offensive if you don't and you'll get to try things you'd never think of eating otherwise.

You'll find that you're going to be much more active than usual because you'll be walking everywhere. You're only going for 6 weeks, just enjoy the experience.

Thanks for the advice. I will be walking a lot more, since I won't have a car, but for safety reasons I'll take a taxi if I need to leave at night. I studied abroad in Spain in 2009 and didn't lose or gain. I must have been walking more than I though, because I did not eat healthy at all. This time around may be tougher because, as a foreigner, I won't be able to eat some things due to unsafe growing conditions/the local water
