edited January 14 in Health and Weight Loss
I've been doing MFP for two and a bit weeks now, and weighed 123lbs, I got the Winter sickness bug last weekend and weight dropped to 118lbs.

As of tonight I'm 120lbs, so I'm "putting back on" the 5lbs I've lost, fair enough, a lot was probably fluid, but for it to take a week to regain?! Seems a bit odd.

Anyways, what I'm wondering/worried about, is the fact that I don't actually know if MFP is working (due to illness loss) and was hoping for some experienced folk/advice on MFP, and if it has worked for you?.......

Would be good to here from ex WeightWatchers too.

(A bit of history about my weight loss - I joined WeightWatchers January 2012, lost 20ish lbs in 6 months, then plateaued for 6 more months, at which point I've "left" WW and joined MFP)

I hope this makes sense! Also would love some more friends on here with open diaries.

Many thanks, Melissa

I have lost 90 pounds by using myfitnesspal and eating nutrisystem one month and diet to go the next.
You can look at my diary and add me as a friend if you want. I am currently doing nutrisystem.
    Good luck :)

Just look at the whole....123...now 120 in two and a half weeks..Thats a nice healthy paced loss. Permanant weight loss is a slower loss like that. Dont even look at the numbers when you were sick..doesnt count. I think your doing good. Review what others think as well...This is only one opinion :)

    Hi Mel,

Given you've been ill and only been going a few weeks, you need to give your body time to settle down again and I wouldn't look too seriously into the fluctations for at leat another 3 weeks or so.

Being sick can throw off your body's balance for anywhere from a few day to a month. Try not to be too mindful of daily fluctuations. I weight myself daily, but only log once a week. This allows me to keep abreast of how what I do daily affects my weight, but keeps me from worrying over small, short-term increases and allows the overall downard trend to show up. Keep at it. If you stick with it and do it right, it will work.

This site and and phone application are only tools to help you with your weight loss.
YOU are the only one does the "working"
Your weight loss or gain depends on the daily choices you make
Do not micromanage your weight on a daily basis.
Weigh in once a week or even less.
Measurements and photos are even better.
In my opinion this is not a journey but a healthy lifestyle change

I wish I'd taken proper before photos, like in a swimsuit, and photos of me now.
I'm really pleased with myself and how far I've come, but losing the last 10lbs is really not happening at all, it's so frustrating.
Kind of for my hopes up losing with the illness, but it's creeping back on!

stick with it over all I have lost 104lbs not all of that with MFP but the majority the secret, well there isn't one it's common sense you log what you eat and exercise and yes the weight will come off. Your body will need time to re adjust after your illness and you may find it take a while to get back on track. We are already friends so you know my diary is open.

Stick with it Mel it does work xx

Thanks Emma, 104lbs is absolutely incredible, you must be so pleased.
A big thing, probably, is that I do very little exercise and that really must change. But you get stuck in a rut you know?
Gym membership is £50 a month which we can't really afford at the moment, and it's always raining here, so outdoors stuff is limited.
Guess I could do an exercise DVD, it's just getting back into it is so difficult!

Losing more than 2 lbs a week is extreme and regardless of the cause, your body will rebound. I have found that I have a very specific average loss as long as I eat under my goal and when I gain or lose faster than my average then I inevitably move towards my average (either for the better or worse). Consistently has been my biggest tool and eating smart every day and working hard every day is key. It is so easy to lose a whole week's worth of work if you blow off a couple days a week.

Yeah, I know slow is best. It's just so frustrating that I've weighed the same for the past 6 months while on WeightWatchers, hoping that MFP will be a kick up the bum I need
