Calorie counts wildly misleading

Think you know how many calories are in what you eat? Think again, it turns out the UK doesn't count calories from fibre and the formula for protein may be over-estimating by around 20%. There's also no account taken for the difference between cooked and raw foods, 10-30% more in cooked foods (less effort required to break them down apparently). I don't know about you, but this threw me a bit. Calories in < calories used is a simple formula, but it does rely to a certain extent on calories in being accurate not "give or take 2-300".
