Running or walking with herniated disc

I have a herniated disc L4/L5. The injury happened 2.5 years ago and I have been left with nerve damage and numbness in my lower left leg/foot.

I used to run and I have read lots about running/not running with this injury. Professional opinion seems to be split about 50/50.

Has anyone here had this and do you run? Or would walking be better. (I have a treadmill, I won't be running or walking outside.) Also, would I be able to do the 30 day shred, maybe modifying any impact cardio?

I would really appreciate any hints and tips for exercise with this injury.
