Fitbit Confusion?

I just bought a fitbit today and synced it around 3:30 pm ish...but what I'm most confused about is that it's showing I've burned 2,178 calories from today...does that sound accurate? I had already had my workout in for the day, I tracked it on here and is it just taking into consideration that possibly?

From using my fitbit I've learned I even burn calories while sleeping! So yes, it is possible to burn that many. If you tracked your exercise activity on MFP, and check the exercise settings box for "negative fitbit calories" your MFP exercise log and food diary will adjust accordingly.

It was tough at first for me to understand the negative numbers on here, but in the long run it has encouraged me to be more active and turn that negative into a positive.

You can also search the technical section of the community to find more info on how Fitbit works with MFP. Once you get it set the way you like, it's a great motivator!! Everyone I know who has purchased one is loving them!

On the first day you use the Fitbit it will give you your BMR calories from 12:01am that day, so what you are seeing is your BMR plus whatever data you entered.

This explains why I saw over three hundred calories on mine this morning. Thanks for all the info.

It does take awhile to understand...have you checked out this Fitbit group yet? http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/1307-fitbit-users I suggest you do if you haven't.

The Fitbit will tell you what you've burned for the whole day-including your workouts, sitting around, etc. It'll show your TDEE for that day instead of just your calories allowed like MFP. Give it a few days and it'll make more sense, I promise  Someone already said something about the negative fitbit calories, there's a post in the link above that explains that in more detail if you haven't already read about it

Sometimes if you have a really active morning it will assume that you are going to burn at that same activity rate all day, kind of an average. I have the older version that only syncs to the computer, but I think this has to do with the newer models and when and how often you sync the FitBit. (Newer ones sync to phone via Bluetooth)

Also I am looking for people to add through FitBit's site, no one I know personally has one. I tend to do better about remembering to wear mine if I know I have other people to be accountable to. Thanks!
