Can I lose 2 lbs a week?

Hi! I'm new here. I want to lose around 40lbs and when I was entering my info for the first time I chose the option of losing 2 lbs per week, but it defaulted to me eating 1200 calories and losing 1 lb a week. Just wondering why that is? Thanks!

It is because MFP sets up a minimum of 1200 calories a day regardless of goals. It is dangerous to go below 1220 a day. MFP sets it guidelines for safe long-lasting weight loss.

Much safer to lose 1lb per week - more likely to keep it off. any good dietitian will recommend only 1lb per week - and it means we get more of the right food and won't have that I'm starving feeling.0

With only 40lbs to lose 1lb/week is better. 2lb/week is meant for people with a lot to lose.0

I think 2lb a week is a little ambitious for anyone. I still have 100 pounds I'd to lose, and I still found 2lb a week too aggressive for me. I'd rather eat a little more and wait a little longer. I think it will make a difference in the long run.0
