Need some guidance

I am getting very frustrated. I work out daily - yesterday worked out for 2 hours (1.5 hours cardio and 0.5 hours weight training). I watch what I eat and log it faithfully. I lost a total of 22 pounds within the past month and a half and recently gained back 2.5 pounds. I have over 100 pounds to loose. The first month I lost 17 pounds (January 2013). The first week in February 2013 I lost an additional 5 pounds. Over the past 10 days, my weight loss has been at a stand still and in fact I have gained that 2.5 pounds. It seemed to melt off. I read a study on taking calcium that helps with weightloss and started taking that a few days ago. I am so discouraged and upset. I don't know what I am doing wrong. I thought if I worked out extra hard and extra long, I would get over the hump. My schedule for working out is 60 minutes per day at 6 days per week. As I said, I worked out for 2 hours yesterday. NOTHING! Can anyone help give me some quidance???

I only looked at a couple days of your diary, but in my opinion you are not eating enough and you should also add more fruits and veggies to your diet. I am struggling with a plateau myself right now and I know it's frustrating, but if you are doing the exercise and eating right it will eventually come off. You didn't gain it overnight, so expect the loss to be slow. It's okay! You keep on going and you will get there! Read more of the boards. There is a lot of great advice out there.0

Thank you for your support. I did notice that I was eating more fruits and veggies in the beginning. Actually lots of fruit. That has come to a stagnant. I will eat more fruits and veggies and see what happens. Going to grab a piece of fruit now. Thanks again.0

It sounds like you lost a lot of weight quickly. (yay!) Don't be discouraged! I joined in January as well and lost the first 10 so quickly! The rest has been sloooow going and sometimes I go up a pound or two, but I think that's mostly water. It's always tempting to think about a supplement or something to give you an edge, but you (and I) are on long journeys with a pretty clear roadmap...creating a calorie deficit by fueling your body efficiently and burning calories. Focus on this process and you will get the results you want. Also, it's been said a million times...measurements, how your clothes fit you, and your increasing fitness level must be rewarding!!
Good luck!0 -
Slow and steady wins the race! Give yourself more time before getting so discouraged because like the previous poster said, you didn't gain all of this in a couple of months, so why would you lose it that quickly?
Also, use something other than the scale to claim your victories, like how do you feel about the positive changes you're making? How do your clothes fit? Have you lost inches? Have you increased your strength? Have you increased your stamina? Is your skin clearer? Do you feel better overall? Do you think you're healthier now than you were two months ago? These all "count" in the weight loss game and these are all victories.
Regardless of what the numbers say, you are doing something healthy and beautiful for your body and you know it so focus on that. Continue on with those positive thoughts and they'll carry you through.
In the end, you have two choices, you can go back to eating mindlessly/poorly/overeating (whatever your main issue was) or make conscious choices to do better (not be perfect just be better), regardless of the struggle, but either way you have to eat.0 -
I am new to this site, but not new to weight loss. After my 3rd baby, almost 3 years ago, I decided enough was enough. I lost a total of 45 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight. I think the main goal you need to keep in mind is not what the scale says. I may weigh more now that I did when I was younger, but I have never been as tone or as strong. You also need to make sure you are eating the foods that will fuel your body. Eat lots of veggies, as many as you can, in a day. I limit my fruits because of the spike and decrease in blood sugar levels that can make you feel hungry and eat more. If you are doing weights, make sure you are getting enough protein. Also, I would add more weight routine and then maybe back off on the cardio. If you are doing too much cardio and your heart rate is getting too high, you are defeating the purpose. I work out with weights about 45 mins to 1 hr each day, then do 30 minutes of cardio. In the past 6 weeks I have gotten serious about getting tone. I have lost at least a pant size, down to a 4 now, but still have yet to see any change in the scale. Don't let the scale be the thing that defines you. Stay strong and keep working hard!!!0

Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. I will try your suggestions. I aso think, I have to figure out what works for my body. I was always thin in highschool up through to my late 20's. Now, being in my 40's things have drastically changed. What worked in my younger years, more than likely won't work now. I guess the more things I try, I might find the right formula. I think I should compair this to when I open the pool in the summer. It is a chemistry project at best. What will work to make the swamp clear. lol0
