My name is Patty and I just joined. I've been active my entire life, somewhat athletic (college sports, runner, outdoorsman etc) but I have gotten into a slump. Over the course of the last two years I have put on pounds and have lost muscle. While my fitness level has been lower than average (I was running about 10 miles week) I was still eating pretty well (I eat a paleo diet and am pretty religious to it--very religious to it in fact). Anyway, I've stayed about the same size clothing wise and I've been busy with school, kids work life I guess to be specific.
Anyway, January like all Americans (or at least a lot of Americans) I decided to kick it in gear. I should back up some too. Because of work I've been seeing a doctor (for insurance purposes) and have been diagnosed with a hormone imbalance. I'm on suppliments for progesterone and testosterone and thyroid. It will be a few months before I can revisit this doctor to see how I'm doing (I am feeling very good though).
Anyway since the first of the year I have been really kicking into gear. I've been running 30 miles a week, doing HIIT 5 days a week and yoga and pilates every other day (which I really enjoy). So far I've gained about five pounds of fat since I've began. I can't tell if I've gained any muscle, though my work outs have gotten easier.
I've gotten pretty depressed over it so I need encouragement. I know my body has gone through changes due to my age (I'm 48) but I refuse to accept that I have to be fat! As I said it will be a few months before I can resee my doctor so I will do all I can in the mean time to advocate for myself!
