i have had diabetes for over 5 years maybe more ,but decided to admit it just a couple of weeks ago, my sugar level is over 300+ most of the time, i am on insulin and also metphorman, I started this diet this week and also joined a gym, but i see that most of the ffod that his good for me to help me loose weight is higher in sugar but low in calories. How much sugar should a diabetic take in a day if anyone knows and also if there is any help out there in this journy i would love to know.
Thanks

First of all, congrats on asking the questions and starting to get healthier. I have been a Type 2 diabetic for about 8 years and have not always been good about watching what I eat or getting my exercise. My doctor would keep getting upset with me because I would never lose weight and my A1C was always pretty high. In January, I decided (again) to do something about it. I am serious this time and actually joined a gym (before I would watch what I ate, most of the time, but didn't exercise, except for in the spring/fall - too cold/icy where I live to get out everyday of the year; or that is my excuse).

I don't really have the answer regarding the sugars as I usually go over each day. But, if you start adding protein and more complex carbohydrates into your diet, you should start to see better blood sugar numbers. Exercise is also a critical element that we need to do.

I am sending you a friend request. Also, you may want to join the Type 2 Diabetes forum. There are a lot of very supportive people there that have better answers to your question.

You may want to check out a low carb / high fat diet. It's keeping me off meds.
