I over eat sometimes because...

I moved to LA without knowing anyone to be with my boyfriend. Now things are horribly rocky and I am trying to branch out and meet people but it is slow and difficult out here, let alone have any close friends that live near me.
I have gained ten pounds, granted, I am lifting alot (which provides necessary relief) but I feel that when I am not lifting I need to eat to distract, to comfort.
My boyfriend and i will probably end things, and I know I need to find my own life, my own self. But I can't help but complain a little. It sucks being alone and turning to food sucks more. I need motivation to stop.
Any ideas welcome.

I have moved several times for work, so it is not the same thing you are going through, however, moving itself is stressful. Finding new friends, routines, etc is a challenge. You like to work out, so that is a start, I would suggest you get in to team sports if possible, without tennis in my families life, we would not have made very many friends in the 7 moves we have been through. There are usually social groups out there as well. We had groups that just did things, like card games etc. It was a nice way to meet new folks and just be yourself.
Please just remember, you are in pain (mentally), every day will seem like a challenge, however, you can meet that challenge with a "can do" attitude. This is just a new chapter in your story that you get to write. With each closing chapter and new chapter or adventure begins. Embrace your new surrounds, things happen for a reason and remember you control your happiness, no one else does.
I wish you the best on your new journey.0 -
I would recommend finding hobby or craft groups to try and make new friends, perhaps clubs. Maybe even hiking or hill-walking groups?0

I know that some people are leery of Craigslist, but there postings on there for new friends and different events/group outings. I'm not sure if you are part of a church, but sometimes they have group deals. Once you meet one person then usually you will gather a circle from that one person. Do you have a job? Are any of your co-workers worth hanging out with? Sometimes when relationships get shaky we tend to overeat. Once you get out of it you will find that you stop eating more. The stress won't be as great. If you need someone to talk to you can always add me as a friend.0

Meetup.com! stick in any hobby you want to try, and it will hook you up with social groups.0

hmmmm would you be in LA if it weren't for your boyfriend? if not, where would you be? maybe you need to find a way to be comfortable with you which will attract so many new people in your life you'll never miss him:happy:  good luck and we all turn to something when we're down so don't beat yourself up!0

It is hard to get a life in socal believe it or not. Everyone is so focused on themselves it is hard to make friends. I am single and I like in San Bernardino. When I moved back a to socal a few months ago i gained 12lbs. I am sure most of us do it when we have other stressful situations going on.0
