NEWBIE Alert !!!! HELP !!

Hi Everyone !!
I am a 46 (almost 47) year old mum of 3 !!
I have JUST joined a gym and had my induction last nite - I am trying to eat healthily - lots of fruit, nut and seed mueslie for brekkie with low fat natural yog.
I want to lose about a stone and a half to 2 stone in weight, and just feel generally fitter and more toned all over.
I dont want to set myself unachievable targets though so just wanted any advice you can give me really.
What kind of diet should I follow?
I'm hoping to go to the gym 3 times a week, while my youngest is at school - I work nights, so this messes up my diet a bit sometimes - find myself starving at 4 in the morning !!!!
Also - how quickly will I see results ????

    Hiya. I've been here a year today and have lost 45 pounds so far. Have about another stone to lose. I'm on here everyday so I will always be here to encourage you and motivate you.
