Did you change WHAT you eat??

So, I just had a question I'm just looking for success stories that include people losing weight by eating less but not necessarily changing what you eat. I love food, and I can't just give up one food group, I'm also a mom of 3 children and we're on one income, so I can't ALWAYS get fruits and veggies for myself (they go to the kids) I do love fruits and vegetables, but when feeding 5 people on a limited budget, you can't have tons of them at every meal, also I enjoy other things to but, what I can do is cut down the portions I have done, and that's what I have been doing. I do try to cook almost all of my meals at home, but I'm a very busy mom and sometimes I'm just tired and don't feel like cooking but that's very rare and I am trying to cut out going out to eat or at least only eat out a couple of times a year.

So, do any of you have success storied of where you reached you goal weigh or have just lost a good bit of weight and didn't change what you ate a whole lot? I started out at 185 and I'm now down to 177 I'm 5'2" (I've been at this for 1 month with a week I was sick and couldn't workout) If you could just enter what you did weigh and how much you have lost. Thank you!!!!

Please no rude comments and I know that always eating fruits and vegetables is a great thing and I know that some people think that certain groups of people believe that you should cut out certain foods all together but, that just won't work for me.

  • Hi

A few years ago i lost about 14 pounds very quickly by literally eating half of what I would normally have eaten...I would make my dinner, eat half of it and save the other half for lunch the next day and there was absolutely no snacking, I was really quite obsessive about it so I don't think it would have good in the long term.....I was also started walking part of the way to and from work each day and was working out every other day. It was really effective but needed sooo much self control, but I did get used to eating a to less. Then I got pregnant and it all went out of the window and I don't think I have enough will power for that to work now so have just started on here...only been doing it since Monday, so very early days! Have you tried the whole smaller plate thing? I find that helps with potion control, kind of tricks you into thinking you are having a bigger helping than you actually are!

I used to weigh around 12.5 stone and now weigh just above 10. My main change was portion size, like i used to just guess or chuck loads in, and now i make sure if the bags say 100g is so many calories that i calculate it right. However, I have also changed elements like making sure i eat fruit rather than a bag of crisps after my sandwich at lunch. If you make the changes small and take one step at a time, it seemed to work for me and I didnt feel like I was on some crazy diet.

I know its hard but small steps/changes work best, good luck :)

I already ate fairly healthy (lots of veg, whole grains, etc.) so there wasn't that much room to change. like you, I can't and won't cut out food groups. I try and eat healthy 80-90% of the time, that way it is no big deal if I indulge here and there. So basically, I just cut down portion sizes. I went from 175 to 145 and have maintained the loss for just over a year now.

FYI for veg on a budget. Frozen veg is where it is at. Frozen spinach is a huge bang for your buck. Frozen mixed veg tossed with some meat over rice in a stir fry is dirt cheap and very healthy! The frozen veg is cheaper than the meat, so you can bulk out the meal by adding more veg or some cooked beans, and use less meat. Buy on sale and stock up!

I eat pretty much the same foods but it different proportions. We eat meat/fish potatoes/sweet potatoes and veggies pretty much every night for dinner. Now i eat more veg and less potatoes, cut the oil/butter out of the potatoes and only eat the lean on the meat.

I also have given up butter almost entirely. Which means i eat less bread and less potatoes. But everything else i eat in moderation (most of the time..). I think it really depends on how good your diet is to begin with.

Is veg massively expensive in the States? Is growing your own an option? I eat alot of pickled veg over the winter, preserved peppers (they're way cheaper than fresh), cooked beetroot, pickled cabbage. The really expensive thing here is meat and fish. Would eating vegetarian once or twice a week free up so money for healthier food?

Pretty much the same, just not the entire container of Haagen Dazs.

I haven't had fast food since I started. I had fish and chips at a pub, just no stopping at McDs on the way home. Basically, I require adult supervision to go out to eat.

I also haven't made cookie dough since I started. I eat sweets, but I don't trust myself to properly ration dough or cookies.

However, I will say that other than those particular and frequent vices, the rest of my diet was already primarily veggies and lean proteins.
