Pre-Run Snacks?

Should I be eating anything before my runs in the morning? If so, can any fellow runners recommend good snacks to fuel my runs?

I usually just go for a quick 30-minute run and then come back and eat a Chobani. Should I be doing something different?

maybe just something simple, like a banana, or oatmeal.

If you feel good and have plenty of energy, keep doing what you're doing. There's evidence that eating before workouts helps people continue to burn fat at greater rates throughout the day*, but runners often have digestive issues if they eat too close to a run (I don't, but many of my friends do). You might want to try eating first if/when you move up to longer runs, but for now I'd say if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

No need to fuel-up for a 30 minute run, unless you find you really have no energy for it. I usually get up and out the door as quickly as possible, then have a good breakfast with protein when I get back. Energy levels are fine and I feel very virtuous for the rest of the day!
