I have over 3,000 songs on my ipod. Usually, as I set out for my walk, I hit shuffle. (No playlists for me).
I walked just about 6 miles this morning.
This is what my ipod picked for me:

Beautiful Boy - John Lennon
Stuck In A Moment - U2
While My Guitar Gently Weeps - The Beatles
Dark Diamond - Elton John
She's The One - John Eddie
Year Of The Cat - Al Steewart
Country Comfort - Elton John
Spread Your Wings - Queen
For A Rocker - Jackson Browne
Evil Woman - ELO
Me And Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin
I'm Your Captain/Closer To Home - Grand Funk Railroad
You Could Have Been A Lady - April Wine
A.B.C. - The Jackson 5
Pigs On The Wing (Part Two) - Pink Floyd
Must Of Got Lost - The J. Geils Band
Lightning On The Hill - Farm Dogs
Last Train To Clarksville - The Monkees
Life Ain't Fair - John Eddie
Is This Love - Bob Marley & The Wailers

This kept me inspired and motivated for an hour and a half!

So, what did your ipod choose for you today?

My iPod has only 1600 songs...I"m slowly transferring a lot (not all ) of my CDS into iTunes. and the other day, when I was feeling pouty, ready to stay home, listen to music and play on the internets, it gave me the following gift:

"Get up offa that thing" (dance til you feel better) by James Brown. I put on my shoes and went directly to the gym.

I make workout playlists by shuffling through my library and finding all the songs with "dance" or "running" in the title. Or "moving". Works for me.

Most of the songs I've purchased from iTunes are pretty upbeat and there are about 250 songs just in the Purchased playlist so when I work out, I just shuffle those and if a slow one comes on, skip right past it! Lady Gaga kept me going on the treadmill last night!!

I have probably about 1500 songs on mine too...mine's only an 8gb so I have it maxed out. Time for a new one!!! I'm getting an iPhone in June so it'll hold me over until then.

What's also great for running...Nike and iTunes put out a running trak... it's by Atrak and it's about 40 minutes long. The beat slows and speeds up to inspire you to switch up your speed for a better calorie burn. I used it a lot when I FIRST started running a couple years ago. Going to put it on my iPod again and see how my calorie burn differs from my normal intervals.

Lady Gaga is my ultimate workout music - great beat and it makes me happy!

I have a Pandora station (Beyonce's Single Ladies) that I can access on my iPhone when I'm at the gym. It's great because it gives me current and older songs all with a great beat that keep me motivated and pushing myself. Music is such a powerful thing when I'm working out!

I sure like the list of songs you had. I think we have similar taste. I have a Sansa Fuze instead of an iPod. It's my personal protest against Apple. In my opinion, people buy Apple just because it says Apple on it. There is nothing an iPod does that is any better than lots of other mp3 players and I refuse to be sucked into that world.

I know everyone has their own brand loyalties but someone needs to challenge this one. Ford versus Chevy I get, but not this. The iPhone is the same way. I don't think there's a good reason to have one when the same capabilities are on other phones without the carrier restrictions of the iPhone. I like the idea of the Android and hope the new Windows Phone 7 system works out well too. Even the new Palm OS looks great and has really good deals because Palm is struggling. The Pre Plus and Pixi Plus both look pretty cool.

Awesome playlist though. I listen to a top ten program at noon. It's on an "oldies" station. They review the top ten songs on this date from some year in the 70's or 80's (too much 80's for my taste). Here's a good one.

    Wednesday 3/31 1977

#10 Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way
#9 The Eagles - Hotel California
    #8 Wings - Maybe I'm Amazed
#7 10cc - The Things We Do For Love
#6 Bob Seger - Night Moves
#5 Steve Miller Band - Fly Like An Eagle
#4 Thelma Houston - Don't Leave Me This Way
#3 David Soul - Don't Give Up On Us
    #2 ABBA - Dancing Queen
    #1 Hall & Oates - Rich Girl

    So many memories......

I did a pretty slow walk this morning since I'm not feeling 100%... here's what my IPOD chose for me...

I pray for you (newly added to my IPOD - funny song - Jaron)
Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald (Gordon Lightfoot)
    White Lightening (George Jones)
I got a feeling (Black Eyed Peas)
Party in the USA (Miley Cyrus)
    Swingin' (John Anderson)
If ya think I'm sexy (Rod Stewart)

Okay - yes... I have completely cheesy taste in music... and I love it!

    So many memories......

I use the word "ipod" in the generic sense. As I would Coke, Q-tip or Band-Aid. Some words just become a part of our culture that they become genericly interchangable. (Although, I do have an iPod). I could or should have said mp3, or cassette (are there any of those left out there?) or CD...

A GREAT top 10 list! I agree "so many memories"! I've always said that "Music is the closest thing we have to time travel." Some songs can really take you back. I unapologetically admit that I particularly like a lot of the One Hit Wonders of the '70's. They are the ones that take me back in time.
I agree with you...the '80's didn't have much to offer. In my opinion, if it wasn't for Bruce Springsteen, I think rock-n-roll may have died in the '80's.

    Thanks for the playlist.

Oh, and one more thought: Chevy

I like your avatar snookeroo! I just noticed the Apple Record logo. I was never a Beatles fan growing up but I am now. I have Beatles Rock Band on the Wii. It's a good time.

Here's a music related quote I have for you.

There are two kinds of people: those that like Barry Manilow and those that don't admit they like Barry Manilow.

I have about 5k+ songs on my iPod.
I love every single song.... until I hit shuffle.
Then I only like about every 10th.

I even detest my own playlists depending on my mood!

My ipod has about 10,000 songs on it, most of which I don't even know. But, currently my ipod is dead because I can't find the charger so I have been listening to Pandora on my phone. If you haven't checked it out you should. It's a free app. You pick an artist you like and it will creat a radio station based on similar artists. Very cool!

My avatar is multi purposed. I am a huge Beatle fan. Snookeroo is a song recorded by Ringo Starr and written by Elton John & Bernie Taupin. I wanted an obscure BT song for my screen name. so I picked this one. I believe I'm a very big Bernie Taupin fan.

There ARE two kinds of people and I am both of them. Growing up in the seventies, I was person # two (it was just something that you didn't admit, that is, if you wanted to have friends). Now, I wouldn't say that I've matured, I just have no shame! I have become person # 1 (But only his early stuff)

Cool avatar explanation. Don't worry about not maturing. I had someone suggest I grow up and start listening to new music. My answer is I'm grown up to know what I like. Why don't you grow up and admit the same thing. I think most people will always pull their favorites from when they were about 16 years old.

I had a Sony Walkman too, but my music obsession started with a little Panasonic transistor radio my grandma got me when I was about 10. I spent a lot of time with that.

I always liked Manilow and still do. I think you should listen to his newer CD's: The Greatest Songs of the Sixties and The Greatest Love Songs of the Seventies.

He sings other people's songs and does a heck of a job. I never really thought of him as a great singer but he's certainly very very good. Karen Carpenter was a great singer. John Denver and Barry Manilow you can sing along with and feel like you're doing a decent job (even when you aren't).

I always say my favorites are along the lines of (but not limited to):
    America
    Bread
    Carpenters
    Doobie Brothers
    Eagles
    Foreigner
(I always get lost at the G's)
    Gordon Lightfoot
    Hall & Oates
Ian Matthews (It's my only "I")
    James Taylor
    Kansas
    Little River Band
    Meat Loaf
    Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
    Olivia Newton-John
Poison (But also check out Pousette Dart Band)
    Queen
    REO Speedwagon
    Supertramp
    Toto

I guess my taste isn't super wide and the time span is fairly tight.

I listen to all of these bands/artists except Poison. In fact, they are all on my mp3 player.
Yea, I'm with you...I like what I like. 16 in the seventies was such a great time.
I also had a transistor radio way back when. It was my pre-walkman. So many memories! AM radio was great! There were no genres. They played Bad Company right along side John Denver right along side Gladys Knight right along side The Carpenters right along side Elton John right along side Donny Osmand...And am radio gave a home to one hit wonders, those long forgotten 45s, that, when you hear them again, reach deep inside you to find that memory that belongs to only you.

Occasionally, a new artist or song will come along that I like. But these are the ones that keep me company, inspire and motivate me!

Here's what my ipod chose for me today:

The Inner Light - The Beatles
Rock It (Prime Jive) - Queen
    Two Hearts - Bruce Springsteen
C'est La Vie - Bob Seger
Black Water - The Doobie Brothers
Spirit Of America - The Beach Boys
    Roller - April Wine
Girl Come Running - Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons
Fallin' In Love - Hamilton, Joe Frank and Renolds
New York State Of Mind - Barbra Streisand
A Hazy Shade Of Winter - Simon and Garfunkel
Heroes and Villians - The Beach Boys
Red Headed Woman - Bruce Springsteen
    Daisy Jane - America
If Not For You - George Harrison
    Drift Away - Dobie Gray
You're So Static - Elton John
Joy To The World - Three Dog Night
Don't Think Twice - Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons
Every Little Thing - The Beatles
Take The Money and Run - Steve Miller Band
I Feel Like A Bullet (In The Gun Of Robert Ford) - Elton John
    Buster - John Eddie
A Heart In New York - Simon and Garfunkel
When We Was Fab - George Harrison
The Last Resort - The Eagles

Some (or all) of this might be "cheesey", but without it, I wouldn't have put in 6 miles!
