I'm looking to step up my exercise. So far I've really just been walking, a lot of walking but I know I need to do more and I want to make sure I'm tracking everything as accurately as I can. I've been using the Runkeeper app on my phone but I'd like something I can keep on me all day even while I chase after my kids and such. I'm really curious to how much that burns. What do I need a fit bit , heart rate monitor, something else? Yes, I am slow but trying to learn :) I would appreciate all your feedback and suggestions! Thanks a million!

A fitbit is a great choice for that. You wear it all day (and night, if you wish) and you get constant feedback about your calories burned, steps, and floors climbed.

An HRM is not meant to be worn all day; it can't accurately tell you your calorie burn when you're not exercising.

I use a Fitbit in conjunction with my HRM. With the Fitbit, you can start a "timer" when you workout. Sometimes the fitbit calories burned match my HRM pretty closely, like when running. But for some activities, it's pretty off so I override its calorie burn using the HRM's numbers.

Another all-day option is the Bodybugg or Bodymedia Fit. I had a Bodybugg and hated it though. The fitbit is far more discrete and has a display so you can always see how you're doing easily.
