I'm at a real loss on what to do. I've recently just gone back to the gym and started off with just cardio. Yesterday I tried doing the Nike Training Club app and ended up pulling an *kitten* cheek muscle even though I stretched and was very careful on what I was doing. Perhaps because I haven't done weights and stuff in such a long time would it be best if I just stick to cardio? LIke treadmill, bike and elliptical for a few weeks? Those don't hurt me LOL

If you're actually injured and not just sore then you need to ease off for a while and relax your glutes. However, that doesn't preclude other exercises nor does it excuse you from workouts. If you want to learn weight training then you could consult the training staff at your gym if there is one or you could review videos of workouts on youtube. Bodybuilding.com has a great list of workout routines and exercise videos to help you learn to do it right.

No matter how out of practice you might have been when you went in for the workout if you pulled a muscle you did something wrong. Mistakes happen but they are not because of the exercise motion, they are because of an exercise performed improperly. You'll get there, we all have a learning curve. Stick with it and it WILL get better.

If you're not able to do a certain thing the best way to improve at it is to actually do that thing, not avoid it.

If you feel you are actually injured, see a physician.

Otherwise, if you feel you just pulled a muscle and will be able to recover on your own, go easier on that part until you are able to use it again. The best way to strengthen muscles and joints are to use them -- don't neglect them and cause yourself pain later. Develop them, make them strong so they will last you for years.

Use your discretion. Discomfort is okay to work through -- sheer pain is not. Know when to go to the doctor and when to change up/modify form/consult a professional for proper technique. All are essential in making sure you are exercising your body in the way it was meant to be used.
