What to do next

Well tonight is my last group training session.... this has been a great mix of HIIT on the bike, and treadmill... boxing, and circuits using kettlebells, bodyweight, weightbags (dont know what they are called) and dumbells... each week pushing us further than before.
I plan on using what I have learned, but I feel I have come on a lot in this past 6 weeks... I used to think I was pushing myself hard last year, but this course has made me realise that I could've done more!
I've really enjoyed this course (theres usually only 4 or 5 of us to one trainer) what next, I dont know. I'm toying with the idea of a few personal trainer sessions, but hell they are so expensive on top of my gym cost
So any suggestions on how to keep up the momentum, and as I have never had a PT, what are the pros and cons of having a trainer...
Many thanks in advance for the advice I will hopefully be given :flowerforyou:

you should probably come back and say what your goals are or something. I know what I would do next but it's hard to give a complete stranger advice with little to no information about them or their situation. Kind of random, no?0

I know trainers are horrifically expensive, but I love mine. He pushes me when I need to be pushed and has way more experience in changing up the workouts that I would ever know. I count the cost of the sessions as an investment in myself.
But there's always ways to get the sessions for less. See if you can join a group as those are usually cheaper than a one-on-one session. If that doesn't work, look at the classes that the gym runs. See if there's one or two that tweak your interest.
Good luck in finding a way to up the program!0 -

I have to agree, I really found the experience working with the various trainers used in the group training fantastic. I feel I have improved my overall health/fitness/strength immensely over this past 6 weeks, pushing way beyond where I thought I could go, which is why I wondered whether a PT would be the way forward... but they are too expensive for me to have regularly - still at a point in life where my kids come first with money.
I already go to classes at the gym, which I thought were hard work until I started this group, now I fly through my workouts in those classes too!
The 4 of us that finished the small group training asked the trainer if/when they would be doing another one, but theres no dates proposed for another session. As I go to the gym by myself, I dont really know anyone there, and I havent really been at this gym long enough to get to know anyone outside my classes, and they seem to have no interest in going onto the gym floor to exercise, they prefer the classes they go to.
I'll ask at reception if there is a board I can put up a request for a couple of work-out buddies so we can share the cost of a trainer between us...0 -

As a relative newbie to gym stuff I didnt really think the question was that random... I'm a bit lost now! This time last year I thought I would get fit / slim and lose almost 100lb by walking 5 miles a day... so you see I have a lot to learn!
I want to lose weight - I still have lots to lose.
I want to get rid of my fat.
I want to be fit.
I want to be stronger than I am
I want to start strength training more, I enjoyed that side of the group training far more than the bikes and treadmills.
When I started there, I had my induction, and I was given cardio warm up, 3 leg machines (legpress abductor and adductor to try to strengthen partial torn ligaments), 2 upper body machines, bike HIIT, and Treadmill to cool-down I am finding the machines easy now, despite upping the weights.
Despite using much lower weights on the kettlebells etc I feel like I am working much harder than with the weight machines, so to help me get to my goals above, will I be able to do that using kettlebells, weighted bags (whatever they are called) and dumbells etc.
I currently go to the gym 6 times a week. 3 spent on the gym floor working on the program I was given in my induction, and 3 in the pool doing aqua (more like strength training in water with all the sit-ups and pushups on the edge of the pool) and almost 2kilometer swim
Does this make sense at all, does it make my goals clearer to get decent answers? If not, please ask.
Many thanks for your time0 -
I just signed up for personal training today, ironically.
For me, there is one obvious con - $$$. It's frigging expensive, lol.
If you're at a loss as to what to do next, it could be very helpful - even if you only go for 3 or 4 sessions. S/he could get you set up with 3 or four challenging routines that you could use to achieve your goals - and they can run you through it to make sure you're doing the exercises properly to prevent injury.
I used to go once a week at my old gym. I loved it and hated it in pretty equal measure, but I lost 40+ pounds in less than 7 months and went from a size 18W to a size 10 that year. Now, I just have to finish what I started!
Best of luck!0 -
If there is a crossfit gym in your area it sounds like you might really enjoy it. For awhile you may be doubling up gym fees, so see if they have some sort of trial or day pass.
Good luck!0 -
try new rules of lifting or the stronglifts programme?
you could get a trainer for a couple of sessions to help you with form & starting weight and then away you go!0 -

I always feel guilty spending money on myself, I find it hard to justify the cost of a PT. I am due to see one of the trainers next week for a re-program, and I will definately ask about the cost of PT sessionsand what they will do. I still have loads of weight to lose and way too many inches, so I need some good kick-my-*kitten* workouts.0 -

I have a meeting with a trainer to put me a new program together next thursday, I will see what he recommends. It helps that he was one of the trainers on the course I have just been on so he knows my current levels of fitness. But I will mention about lifting to him.0 -

Don't look at it as spending money on yourself - it's not like you're going out and buying a pair of ridiculously expensive shoes that will sit in your closet. You're investing in a healthier, more active future for you and your family and ultimately ensuring that you'll be around a lot longer for your kids!0 -
