    "It's probably muscle"

    In response to people complaining about gaining 3 lbs in a week WHILE AT A DEFICIT. Want to bang my head against the wall every time I see it.

    Muscle weighs more than fat.

    Definitely bothers me when people say that, to be accurate it should be states that 1 lb of muscle is smaller in volume than 1lb of fat. Not that it weighs differently. IT WEIGHS THE SAME, it's the volume that changes.

    OMG I'm never going to make my 1000 calorie limit today... I can't possibly eat that much!

    Topic " help I keep going over in my protein ". 5 pages in - "I don't know if anyone answered you yet, I only read the first post but..." 5 pages in!!! 5! Chances are it has been. Multiple times Read the first answer after the original post, it said what you said.
    Ok. I feel better now.

    The ones that really get me are starvation mode and "I don't want to get bulky." Also, you must eat breakfast (not me) or do not eat late at night (I always do).

    Anytime I read/hear this, it is like nails on a chalkboard. A pound of dirt weighs as much as a pound of feathers. Muscle is more DENSE than fat, so you can have more of it, but the two weigh EXACTLY the same.

    going faster = burning more calories

    This just really isnt very true. I see women going super fast on the elliptical machines with little to no resistance and i want to tell them to slow down and bump up the resistance but i suspect that would be rude.

    But that makes it harder!
    if you want to work harder you have to challenge yourself with more weight or intensity, not just speed

    No. The 500cals a day is making you lose weight. The pee is just a gimmick.

    Top of my list: "Women shouldn't lift heavy weights or they will get bulky"

    If I hear one more person say that...I lift moderately heavy weights (10 reps or less) 3 times a week and I continue to get lean.

    It depends on your goals and body type. Women don't ordinarily get" bulky, " but they do get bigger.

    I have no problem with it. It means they want to be firm and lean without being ripped.

    This, if i could gain 3 lbs of muscle even while eating at a surplus I would weigh 2000lbs

    Rest days are necessary. I walk for 30 minutes a day and take the weekend off so my body can recover.

    It's running. Like, similar to walking but faster. My kids learned to walk and then started running about 3 months later. Children do it in the park all day every day but grown *kitten* adults have to post a forum topic to be ask how to buy shoes, run (similar to walking, but faster) and don't overdo it?

    oh, and don't forget to buy your hrm first because if you don't your heart might explode! yes, so many exploded hearts on the running trail by my house.

    Step 3: Walk faster
    Step 4: Walk even faster

    Squats are bad for your knees.
    Older people (i.e, those of us over 40) shouldn't lift heavy.

    And not really a myth but definitely a peeve: I'm lifting heavy with these 5 lb dumbbells.
    Good grief. The first two examples are not myths.

    Serious question: Resistance burns more, even during cardio workouts? I thought that was just for weight training. Well damn, I didn't know that! Huh!

    It's not so much resistance or speed - it's intensity. The higher the intensity the higher the calorie need.

    You can do that by increasing speed, or resistance or both...

    I really dont think so. If youre just free wheeling on a machine with no resistance youre not going to burn much more than just going slow. Also, see this article which says that running any faster than 6.0 does not provide much more calorie burn. I was pretty shocked by that one and not sure i totally believe it but there is some science behind it:

    This one pisses me off no end. I am almost to my 1200 limit and it's only after lunch time.
    Gonna have to go out and run laps just so I can eat some supper, lol

    Your not losing cause your not eating enough, your body will hold on to the fat if you don't eat enough, you should not eat below 1200 calories or you'll go into starvation mode, if you eat less than 1200 calories you will have an eating disorder, if you eat less than 1200 calories you'll never be able to stay on that and gain all your weight back. You can't be healthy if you eat less than 1200 calories. I groan and want to face punch people who say these things.

    And don't turn me in for encouraging others to eat low, that is NOT what I'm saying here and FYI I never have and never will.

    "Different things work for different people"

    A woman fitness model follows a different routine and diet from a body builder or a power lifter.

    If you can build up your walking speed to 5 mph, or 12 minutes per mile, you will be at the top calorie burn per mile and achieve the same burn as a jogger. If you are a runner, you don't get any calorie burning benefit by going faster than 10 minutes per mile or 6 mph.

    Should I Go Longer?
    The further you walk or run, the more calories you burn. You get the most benefit by adding distance to your workout, whether you walk or run.

    Should I Add Weight?
    You will burn more calories per mile at every speed by weighing more, but it is a very small difference and not worth the risk of strain. Every extra pound means more pounding on your feet, ankles, knees and hips. It is better to walk or run further than to add any weight.

    Top 5

    1.) lifting heavy will make you bulk (men or women)

    2.) spot reducing fat

    3.) you need to do a gazillion hours of cardio daily when trying to lose weight

    4.) you should just focus on lifting and dump the cardio (last time I checked, the heart was an important muscle and it's good to work it out)

    5.) anything involving muscle confusion and why I should take a break from my heavy lifting routine for some more muscle confusion routines.

    You can gain muscle and lose fat at the same time (this made me sad when I found out)

    #1 for me is the same as the others, when girls say they are going to lift light weights because if they lift heavy they will get bulky.

    But even MORE of a pet peeve are the girls who try to dispute the ones telling them this isn't the case!! There is always one bad egg who argues and argues with the people being positive about lifting. And then they say "I wouldn't want to look like that" when someone posts a picture of a hot girl that lifts (like a bikini/fitness model, the ones who are more lean).

    Oh really? You don't want to look hot and fit? I'd LOVE to hear a fit/in shape person say they wouldn't want to look like that!! Even the thinnest Victoria Secret model (Candace Swapoele or however you spell) decided to gain some weight and muscle when she saw the too-thin pictures of herself...and guess what it looks better!! Anorexic/stick thin NEVER LOOKS GOOD!!

    Top of my list - that you need a heart rate monitor. And that they are totally accurate for calorie burns.

    But the bulky thing is high up there.

    HRMs are helpful during cardio work. I ignore all calorie burn estimates because they tend to be inaccurate.

    I always see people running to nowhere on the treadmill at the gym.. I wonder if they are running away from weakness or running away from us people who just walk... Was there a memo passed that stated that you have to run like a cheetah in order to have a good workout or something?
