Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.0

not one big thing - a million little things
someone who tells you when your face is dirty0 -
Loyalty. Tell me when I'm wrong. Accept that I am not perfect but I'm worthy. Give me money when I need it LOL.0

honesty. trust. being there for me not matter what. not being afraid to tell me the truth even if it hurts.0

all of the above and having someone to make you laugh when things are crap.
i've recently realized how many people i have that i could call at 3 am who would help me, no questions asked. if i needed to cry, if i had car trouble, whatever. and dang it that makes me feel so lucky.0 -
No strings attached sex.
Unless bondage is to be involved.
That and honesty. I can put up with a lot of crap (well, what I consider crap) from my friends, but lying to me is an automatic three strikes.0 -

Big props for the new punctuation use. Also for the Shawshank reference.0 -
Hmmmm...."What makes a good friend?" she asks.
"If you want a good friend, BE a good friend."
Sorry...I can't remember who I'm quoting.0 -

Some one who see's the good in you.
Some one who is positive, encouraging, and loyal.
Some one you know you can call when you need a favor, because you would do the same for them.

"a friend in need is a friend indeed". People forget this all the time. I think someone who can be there for you through your good times as well as your bad is a good friend.0

A friend will help you move....
a GOOD friend will help you move a body.....0 -
I got this....
FAKE VS. REAL
FAKE FRIENDS: Never ask for food.
REAL FRIENDS: Are the reason you have no food.
FAKE FRIENDS: Call your parents Mr./Mrs.
REAL FRIENDS: Call your parents DAD/MOM.
FAKE FRIENDS: Bail you out of jail and tell you what you did was wrong.
REAL FRIENDS: Will sit next to you saying “Damn … we really messed up … but that sure was fun!”
FAKE FRIENDS: Never seen you cry.
REAL FRIENDS: Cry with you.
FAKE FRIENDS: Borrow your stuff for a few days then give it back.
REAL FRIENDS: Keep your stuff so long they forget it’s yours.
FAKE FRIENDS: Know a few things about you.
REAL FRIENDS: Can write a book about you, with direct quotes from you.
FAKE FRIENDS: Will leave you behind if that is what the crowd is doing.
REAL FRIENDS: Will kick the whole crowds *kitten* that left you.
FAKE FRIENDS: Will knock on your front door.
REAL FRIENDS: Walk right in and say “I’M HOME!”
FAKE FRIENDS: Are for awhile.
REAL FRIENDS: Are for life.
FAKE FRIENDS: Say they are too busy to listen to your problems, but when it comes to them they expect you to have all the time in the world.
REAL FRIENDS: Not only kick everything out of their schedule to listen to what’s wrong, but help come up with vindictive plans to make you feel a whole lot better!
FAKE FRIENDS: Make you say sorry when you want to talk to them at odd hours of the night, or even just hang out at odd hours.
REAL FRIENDS: Come right over and hang out with you, until you either fall asleep, or kick them out.0 -
I was afraid she'd ask me that....lol.
OK. I believe the original author was trying to say that it doesn't matter what someone else does. If WE are truely a friend we treat them with love and respect with no expectation of ANYTHING in return. The other person doesn't get to decide for us what a friend is. Since we can only control our own treatment of others, their behavior is not what qualifies them as a friend. They are our friend if WE decide they are.0
