How long should you wait to excerise after eating a full meal?

Replies

  • 40 minutes to an hour is a good measure, depending on how big the meal was. It you're feeling "stuffed" then it may take a little longer.

I would guess at least 30 minutes.

Depends on the meal and exercise, but I wait at least an hour, preferably 2. I'll sometimes have a scoop of whey before I work out, but I still give that at least half an hour to settle.

I much prefer to work out a little bit hungry. It's much easier to be aggressive and push yourself when you're not feeling fat and happy.

I think it depends on what type of workout and how you respond to food while working out. I can't eat anything within like an hour if I'm going to run but I can do almost anything else within 30 minutes or so

Till you feel ready to move well and comfortably?

Sorry, I don't know. I like to work out in the mornings before I have had anything but coffee. 3 or 4 eggs (whites mostly) omlette otherwise. But I'm an eater.

The few times I work out later in the day, it's after a light snack if that helps. Just do what feels right for you.

Depends on the exercise. If I'm planning on doing a stationary bike ride, I will pop a pbj sandwich about 15-30 minutes before my workout just so that I don't feel faint or dizzy while working out. Since my stomach isn't being jostled around, it's never bothered me. I probably wouldn't do that if I was going running or an aerobics class.
