Maybe I'm being dramatic but...

I would DIE if pierogies disappeared off of the face of the earth. Last night we had my all time favorite comfort food (that my mom always used to make me) for 560 calories! It's kielbasa (turkey to keep it lighter), sauted garlic and red onions, and boiled then sauted pierogies.

Oh.....Em....Gee

What is your favorite meal that is comfort food, but can be made lighter? Why is it your favorite comfort food?

P.S. Happy Friday :)

My favorite food many years ago when I lived in USA was potato/onion or Potato/cheese pierogies ! I would put a little butter in a pan with onions and brown the pierogies in it until pierogie was crispy on outside. I would serve it with sour cream. It must be at least 12 years or more since I have even heard the word pierogies .

I bought them in a grocery store in the frozen food aisle. I never would find them where I live in Europe now. I never had meat with them and they were always potato based. Thanks for the great memories of one of my all time favorite foods.

Oreo cookies in the middle of the night. Reminds me of being a kid & waking up Dad in the middle of the night.

    Pizza.
Not sure why, but the Oreo guy made me remember,
when I was little my family would have pizza every Friday night and watch a movie.
That was when life was good... before everything started falling apart.
I wonder if that's the reason I have issues with the food.

Ha!!!! Same! I have no clue what it is or even how to say it... I guess it is possible to live without whatever it is after all ;)

Pierogies are awesome, but I eat them with pasta sauce :D

Pizza is my all time comfort food. Similar to crunchy we had a tradition when I was growing up. Every Saturday my pops would make homemade pizza and we'd watch Star Trek TNG. From there it evolved into movie night when my brother and I got older. Now I don't go a Sat without pizza. Granted I've changed up the recipe from when I learned it. Now I use whole wheat flour dough, a pizza stone, better marinara, lighter cheese, and turkey based meats.

Wondering the same. What is pierogies?
  • Chocolate chip cookies. Extra yummy if they are fresh from the oven. Not so much a family thing, just a food I love.

My all time comfort food is cheese!

Cheese and crackers, cheese on toast, or even just a baked camembert with crusty bread and cranberry jelly :)

    HEAVEN!

My comfort food is red wine and it can be made lighter by eating less during the day.
  • Mac'n'cheese like we had in school lunches! With crispy breadcrumbs on top. You can't make it low cal. No way. It's a once a year splurge you just have to do.

Interesting. I didn't realize showing someone the ease of using a search engine resulted in being insulted. So I guess I shouldn't show you how to convert an IPv4 address from degrees to binary?

MMMMMMMM.....Pierogies ! Fried in Butter. And Golubki. With Paczki for dessert. Polish comfort foods, made by Grandma, who came over on the boat. No wonder I'm fat!

Pierogies are a Polish food - kind of like a ravioli, but hand made. They can be filled with anything, but tradition is potato-based. In our household we also used to make pierogies from the refrigerator left-overs. Any meat, vegetable combo will do.

Golubki are cabbage rolls. Paczi are heavy dough fried and filled with jelly.

Ohhhhhh - just saw we were supposed to suggest how to make them lighter. Probably not gonna happen with pierogies or paczki.

my favorite is chili. im near chicago in illinois and its cold and snowy. good crock pot dinner. i can make that pretty low calorie and add turkey.

my favorite naughty one is pizza as well. i did find a wheat self rise crust pepperoni pizza around 200 calories a slice. so i can eat 3 decent size pieces of that for 600 calories. for pizza, that is not too too bad.

It's a similar concept, but it's much more... potato-y. Think "mini potato and cheese pie" but with a sort of chewy/doughy, thin crust that's then fried in butter until the crust is crisp.

Not really. I'll still use lmgtfy, and my day will continue to be amazing. You'll apparently just be bitter all day.

I googled pierogie images..they look like dumplings (little stuffed pies). I've never had one but they do look delicious.

Thanks!x In Ireland we have a thing called Boxty, which is a potato cake/ potato bread so I guess one of those filled and fried would be close? That's some serious carb food!
