What is the best approach?

Hi everyone. I'm new here. I'm about 220lbs and am about 40lbs overweight :-(

This happened before but I was younger (20s and now I am in my 30s) and that time I lost the weight easily by "eating better". Now I am not that good at it and hope tracking my food and exercising will help.

Here's the thing: what is the best approach at following myfitnesspal? Should I simply stick to the projected number of calories per day independently of where the calories come from? I mean, if I (for example) plan my meals and notice I still have say 200 calories left to eat does that mean I could potentially eat a 200 calories chocolate?

Yesterday was my second day and I (very proudly) ate very well, balanced food, but at the end of the day I still had like 400 calories left. I didn't eat anything extra just to get those 400 calories since I felt fine so I just went to sleep. Is that bad? Should I stick to the number of calories MFP tells me?

I appreciate your input!

I think you should do exactly that! Why complicate things?

Just stick to the calories MFP is giving you and see what results you get. Eventually you probably would like to get more quality food for your calories and then you can start to look into nutrition more if that interests you.

    Keep it simple :)

About your 400 you had left. If you're hungry, eat and if you're not, save them for another day. You will most likely have days when you go over and days when you go under, it's just life.
