Setting Goals

When I first joined the site I really had only the singular goal of losing 30 pounds but since have noticed that quite a few people have lots of goals; short-term, mid-term and long-term. Many even have developed a personal rewards system to go with their goals for added motivation. I really like the idea and kind of think that setting and achieving intermediate goals along the way is a great idea. Do you use intermediate goals for motivation? A rewards system? If so, have they helped you in progressing towards your final goal of achieving your desired weight?

Oh yes! I started with sixty pounds that I wanted to lose. Every six weeks I set a goal to lose 10 pounds. Then I try to find some sort of reward to give or let myself do. Weekend with a friend, something to buy that I have had my eye on, trip to someplace, etc. The smaller weight goals really helps so you don't get discouraged! I have not made any of my goals as of yet but the last two I was only one pound away so it gives me extra motivation to achieve it this time! Best of luck to you!0

I personally have set a goal to lose 5 pounds per month; as I think that is a responsible and healthy way to obtain my final goal. I have not yet rewarded myself, as I don't really deprive myself.
As I have really just reach the midway point of my weight loss, I may go out and purchase a few "new" items of clothing - not just as a reward, but because I need them as well. :blushing:0 -
I think setting goals are so important. When I decided to start this I actually broke down my weight loss goals into phases. I tried to be as realistic as possible, often times you'll find that people's expecations arent very realistic.
Phase 1 for me was to lose the first 50lbs in a 6 month time frame- considering my weight, losing 50lbs in 6 months was totally feasible.
Phase 2 was to lose another 20lbs- I dont have a deadline for this yet, but most likely will make it be the end of the year
Phase 3 is losing the last 30lbs- which I will probably give myself a year to do
The less you weigh the harder it will be to lose the weight...keep that in mind.
I am still in phase 1- every 15lbs I lose I do treat myself. I thinks its important to reward yourself for the hard work you've put in. Ive gottan a manicure, pedicure, new jeans, next big one is when I reach 200lbs I get a full body massage, which I can not wait for because Im really sore after all this working out!!!
Good luck making goal just make them realiztic please- remember you should be losing 1-2lbs a week use that as a guideline even if you drop higher numbers than that, you will eventually slow down.0
