Hi Everyone,
I'm new to MFP and am very happy I found it. My husband and I started a new journey to regain our health on my birthday Feb 20th of this year. He has lost 78lbs and I've lost only 10lbs. We are trying to eat healthy and learning about reading labels, eating balanced meals.
My husband lost his weight by cutting out cokes and all sweet things such as candy, cakes etc. He began walking a mile a day for 6 days a week. I've been a serious contender with exercising & weight training. But I haven't found the exercise routine that I truly enjoy. I recently bought the FIRM and I need to become consistent with it.
My day job is seditary. If I don't plan exercise early in the morning, it won't happen. I get up at 4:15 a.m. and try to exercise by 5 a.m. Then I get ready for my day. I've missed the last 3 days...But I KNOW that I've got to work out 6 days a week. I'm hoping eventually my metabolism will begin to kick into gear and I'll begin to lose more weight.
I need to lose 48 lbs. According to the site it should take until the end of February 2011. I definitely want to keep it off, so I'm willing to take the slow route.

HI there and welcome to MFP. Firstly I want to say good luck on your weight loss journey, you can do it. The slow and steady approach is the best if you want to keep the weight off. Crash diets are so short term and the wieght (plus more) always comes back.
For me I do not see this as being on a diet. I try to see this as a lifestyle change. I have reduced the amount of bad food i eat. I have not cut it out because every now and then I need a treat. I have also increased my exercise. I now try to get to the gym at least 3 times a week but most of the time I can get there 5 times. There are times when I want to just turn around and say "forget it, I can't be bothered with this any more" but then I think of the reasons why I am doing this. It does help to have incentives behind why you want to lose weight. For me it is both to be healthy and my summer vacation. I want to look and feel good walking along the beach  .
There will be times when things are not moving in the right direction so when that does happen just log on here and vent your frustration. Or go for a walk or at least do something that will keep you away from the food and help you stay motivated.
Again I want to finsih by saying good luck.0 -
First of all welcome! When I began my weight loss journey I was looking for something to not just lose weight, which I already knew how to do, but for something to teach me about nutrition. This is a great website and you will find real friends and support here. The food diary lets you see exactly what you are eating, calories, sodium, fat etc. It opened my eyes to what I was eating and what I should stay away from. Exercise is important but what is more important is finding an activity you can do that doesn't make you bored or dread your workout. It takes time to see what you like and what you thrive at, keep active and try different things, keeping your muscles guessing is the best exercise. Once again welcome and I look forward to you future success.0

Just Joining. wanted to say hi to all of you. I have read a lot of the posts and this group seems fun, encouraging and motivated to support eachother. I really can appreciate all that. I hope to be encouraging and supportive to you all too. My goal is to get healthy and lose the baby weight ( if I can still call it that after 3 &1/2 yrs.) I had all my kids fast so that I didnt have to be preggers forever. I have four chidren ages 3,5,6,7 yrs old. I still look at least 7 months pregnant. Most of my weight is in my belly. I too start to do well losing 3-5 pounds then just fizzle out and gain it back. Then I get motivated again, just to do the same thing over and over. So I have been discouraged. This last time around I just started to eat healthy and drink water only. Then I started feeling good and had more energy, so at that point I added walking. I walked 3x and then it was easter and I stopped walking and started to eat my kids' easter candy with them ! Well tomorrow I start over and hope to stick to it once and for all. I would love to join the 5 pounds a month challange. I am 5'3" tall and now weigh 154 pounds and my GW for May 7th is149 pounds. Yeah that sounds great.....out of the 150's. Any ideas for the belly fat? Will it naturally go down as I lose weight? It is so much bigger than the rest of my body parts. Looking forward to posting with you all. Cheers, to a healthy 2010!0

Thank you for your encouragement. I appreciate your insights. I have adopted the philosophy that this not a diet but a way of life. I do have some goals to keep me motivated, but this site really helps me to know what I'm eating and what I'm "spending" caloric wise.0
