Continuous chest pain at 18...

Alright so over the past year I've lost a lot of weight (well, about 38 pounds). I'm 18 years old, 5'3 and currently weigh 110. While that weight is still in the healthy range of my bmi, I probably haven't weighed this much since I was like 10 or 11. My dilemma is that recently whenever I workout I get really bad chest pain. Not during the workout but a few hours after and it's a continuos chest pain that lasts sometimes up to an entire day. I've been told I should put a few pounds back on and I'm trying to (the healthy and slow way for the most part), but I still want to exercise to stay toned. My question is, should i be concerned about this chest pain? I've never felt this before after working out and it's kind of scaring me. I've taken the workouts easy the past couple of days, but even something simple like jumping rope moderately for five minutes makes me heart hurt. Any advice?

    Yes I have advice....see a doctor!
  • if this continues then yes I will definitely see a doctor. But for now I meant any advice or ideas on what could have caused this? Any one with a similar situation? I really want to keep exercising, but I don't want to push it if it'll make it worse.

Don't be stupid. Go to the doctor. Waiting for it to continue or get worse could have seriously bad repercussions.

Ella, usually when there is pain in the body it is telling you something is not right, the longer you have the pain the more not right it is.

I agree that you should make an appointment to see a Medical Professional as they know what they are doing and not guessing like anyone here would be.

This. It's not unheard of for a young adult to have a heart attack or a heart condition because of a genetic defect. Get yourself checked out.

Also, be ware that you are a growing woman. You will likely never weigh what you did when you were 10-11 again and that's perfectly normal and healthy. You aren't supposed to have the body of a pre-teen when you are an adult woman.

Can you localize it with one finger? Does it change when you take a deep breath? If yes, then it's likely not cardiac pain, but muscular pain. If you answered no to those questions, go to the doctor NOW -- as in EMERGENCY ROOM!!
