Compromise between price and taste and go for a really beautiful pinot noir from 2009 in the Russian River Valley, preferably vintner's reserve.

Don't waste your calories on something that won't be 100% worth it.

This! A good pinot noir is everyones friend.
  • Malbec is amazing! Try Cantana! Its is delish and right around $20

I don't know a dang thing about wine, have the palate of a child, and am totally broke. Those three things in mind, I like Barefoot Cellars red Moscato and Sweet Red.
  • I'm a Reisling girl too!
  • I usually pick white or rose wines.
A good , yet inexpensive choice is Naked Grape Cabernet.

What food will you be drinking it with?

Nothing special, just a nice homemade sandwhich and the couch :-)

I love the Sweet Red Roo by Yellowtail. And at about $12 for a large bottle, you can't beat it!

My sister turned me onto a red blend called Apothic. Here in NY it's about $10 a bottle. It's a good everyday wine, goes with a meal and also tastes great having a glass on its own. Even my boyfriend (total wine snob) likes it.

I've been meaning to try this one. Thanks for the reminder! :-)

If you choose white make it a spritzer with 1/2 club soda and a wedge of lime. 1/2 the calories and can still enjoy a social drink.

    Excellent idea!!!! :-)

Somebody just turned me on to Malbecs from Argentina. They are red. Yummy. Can be pricey.

For years, I've liked Sauvignon Blancs from Marlborough, New Zealand.

The spritzer advice was good advice. You can get any cheap wine and add club soda and a lime. Sangria is usually red wine with club soda, orange juice, lemon juice, sugar, and brandy, but you can make a mini mock sangria by only using the red wine, club soda, and some whole fruit. If you don't like the spritzer, you can try alternating a regular glass of wine with a club soda and lime, or using Seltzer instead.

    Great point! Thanks!

Oh, well. I love both. White? Nice viogner or condrieu? Red? Malbec, shiraz, merlot ... Depends on the area. But now whatever nice wine I drink, it has to fit into my calories allowance. I am travelling now, dinner was total crap as they could not deliver grilled chicken breast and veg so I am enjoying wine instead. I know it is not ideal. But once a week? It does not hurt that much.

Cupcake moscato is my favorite sweet wine. I am from Missouri and there are a lot of great local wines here Riverboat Red, Jowler Creek Red Cockadoodle doo are my favorite reds
  • I prefer white wine, over red, although I don't get around to buying a bottle often! After reading comments, I am dying to try the SkinnyGirl wines! Only 87 cals per serving? I'm there!

I enjoy a red sirah most of the time, Sangiovese's are good as well...but my absolute favories are blended red wine's in the Super Tuscan family. (They are usually the cheaper wines, but I like their flavors) lol.
