Satisfying Meals

Today for lunch I had a half sandwich with salami, mozorella, red onion and lettuce with a caesar salad and water. Was the meal higher in fat and sodium than I would have liked? Yes. However, the quality of the food was so good that I was satisfied with the portion I had and was content to not having anything else. I am comfortably full and not left for wanting anything else because I'm still craving sugar or salt, etc.

I think it is so important to eat meals that are satisfying when attempting to lose weight so we don't crave anything afterwards and over eat. Today was also another good reminder of the reasons why I'd rather pay a little more for my food to get fresh quality ingredients. None of the ingredients were organic, but the restaurant I was at makes all of their own breads and dressings and everything was just fresh.

It is amazing what a "fresh" meal can do for your diet.

Edit: Forgot to add...For me, eating a higher calorie meal that tastes wonderful and is healthier for me is worth the calories I am going to have to burn at the gym tonight. That is what makes my losing weight more satisfying. That I don't have to give anything up to feel better, look better and eat better.

    I agree.
I found when I was trying to limit my meals, especially lunch, I ended up eating MORE overall because I was so unsatisfied and zomghungry about 2 hours later, than if I just ate a bigger lunch that would carry me through 4 hours til dinner. That in turn would leave me nicely hungry by dinnertime, so I'd eat a proper dinner, rather than being full from post-punch snacking, picking at dinner, than needing ANOTHER snack session a bit after dinner.

Sometimes just having what you feel like, and want 9within reason) helps more than trying to restrict yourself if you're the type like me who tends to not do well at restriction and breaks down pretty quickly!

me too - i'll eat a burrito that has freshly cooked steak, avocados, tomatoes, and onions, and be satisfied that the unhealthy part is the sodium and the tortilla. It keeps me full from lunch well into the night with my workout.
