I just started level 3 day 1 of 30 day shred.
Since level 1, halfway through, ive developed what I think is shin splints.
I just can not do the jumping portion of level 3, I could barely bear it for level 2, but those rock star jumps and squat jumps I just can not do.
Is there anything I can substitute them with?

I'm currently on level 3 as well and I'm unable to do the rock star jumps (I live on a 3rd story apartment and can't bare waking up my neighbors with my stomping.) I've replaced them with my favorite cardio moves to keep my heart beat up. Buttkicks and the twist cardio exercise (from level 2 cardio set 2) are my favorites.0

I can do the rock-star jumps no problem, but I don't think they're very effective for what most people are trying to accomplish and have the potential to damage your knees.
Sometimes I do them, and other times I substitute them for straight high kicks over my head side-to-side. It's not plyometric, but I feel it more in my hip flexors and therefore I think it's more effective.0 -
Other moves I find don't give enough of a burn. For example, I do the plank rows with the leg raise AT THE SAME time.
I feel it more in my core if I do it that way.0 -
I substitute them with lying there in pain and cursing at Jillian0

A lot of people have this problem. It's because the form demonstrated by Jillian in the video is incorrect and WILL lead to injury. Read up on proper form for plyometric exercises, and the right footwear is EXTREMELY important.0

BAHAHAHA winner of most awesome and honest answer ever!!0 -
i swear they should call this "30 days to shredded knees" the moves she does are VERY hard to do in correct form with how fast Jillian goes. I usually pause the video and do them slowly on my own so i can make sure not to hyperextend my knees during static lunges or squats. your knees should never extend over the tops of your feet0

I've been wondering this same thing too as some of the moves do seem to be rough on the knees.0

I sometimes sub in different cardio if I find one is too tough on certain muscle groups0

I started level 3 yesterday and I have to sub or modify A LOT!! It's killing my already chronically injured shoulder0

first off, try treating the pain. ice and stretch (not at the same time) google your symptoms or go to a doctor.
second, if it causes you a lot of pain, don't do it! modify or so something else. just so squats. I hated the rock star hops because they would jar my back too much, so I'd sub for something different all the time, sometimes it was jumping jacks, squats, cross country (deep lunges), or whatever I felt like that day.
good luck!0 -
I haven't had trouble with the jumping segments, but I also don't always go as fast as Jillian, particularly on the rockstar jumps. I just can't do those jumps that fast. I think the most important thing with the cardio is to keep your heart rate up. You could try subbing in more squat-punches, and the mountain-climbers are also pretty low impact. Personally, I have to modify the plank rows because it hurts my palms to balance on my old fashioned metal free weights.0

Phew! I thought I was alone with the sore knees while doing the 30DS. My knees always felt a bit sore every time I did it but I thought it was because I am more than 50 pounds overweight and my knees just couldn't take the weight. Hm...0
