Heavy lifting

Hi guys,
I have been doing 2 PT sessions and 4-5 spin classes the per week (for about 6 months now), however I want to start lifting heavy to get quicker results. It seems my fitness is constantly going up but it is taking me an incredibly long time to loose weight.
I have been lifting for 5 months now just twice a week during my PT sessions, however as of two weeks ago I have gone at the weights 4 times a week, and am planning to continue such. If i do 20-25 mins of heavy lifting per session (4 times a week) will i see results soon? Or should i be doing more than that?
I eat healthy and never binge. I used to be very slim and only put on weight because of a medication, and have been going to the gym for the past 7 years 6 times per week. I think that the only way I'm going to loose is by doing something different - i.e. lifting?
Thanks heaps for any advice !

Does PT stand for personal trainer?0
-
it does, sorry i didnt make that clearer0

Are you unhappy with your PT? Is it them that is currently planning your lifting workout? Are you still on the medication?0

I went off the medication about 6 months ago after putting on 10 kgs from it. My PT is amazing, however my dietitian, GP and PT do not understand where i am going wrong because im struggling to loose weight. I seem to be doing everything right, so i think my medication is still affecting my efforts. Everything is just extra slow. It is highly infuriating because i put in so much effort but it doesnt all show. I didnt binge/eat takeaway or anything to put on weight and im healthier than ever, but im just not loosing!!
My PT goes through a lifting workout with me twice a week, but the other two days are on my own.
end of rant...0 -
Well if a dietician and a GP can't figure it out....
Try not to be insulted, because I don't know anything about you, but common problems on the forums;
Portion size - are they being measured and logged accurately? Is something not being logged that could be an issue?
Are your expectations realistic? Do the professionals share your concerns over your current weight loss rate?0 -
I'm not insulted at all! Thankyou for listening! -I have never been an over eater- and i log everything accurately. Also completely 100% honest with my dietician because at the end of the day I'm there to fix things. I'm healthy, but i'm just not as small as i used to be which upsets me because the weight gain was out of my control. I guess it will just take longer for me. Was just hoping heavy lifting would speed the process because i haven't given that a big shot. Perhaps could do wonders for me.0

Well lifting heavy is certainly capable of doing wonders for your health, ability and injury prevention.
I'm more concerned that you've got two professionals that are more qualified than me already helping and you're not happy. It's great that you're being honest, it's so frustrating for all involved if you're not, and it's the best way to make rapid progress. I hate the 'individual snowflake' thing, but you can't escape the fact that people will lose weight at different rates.
Are you sure that you're not being overly concerned with a number on a scale? If that is the issue, then trying to get stronger could potentially make that worse.0 -
I've given up with weighing myself because i just want to cry each time i look at the numbers on the scale - especially because i have gained muscle as of late.. But i just want to visibly loose weight now i.e. when i look in the mirror i want to look thinner. Muscle weighs more than fat, so shouldn't be too worried about the scales.
I guess you're right that people lose weight at different rates, it just sucks!
Anyway thanks for your advice, i really appreciate it !0
