Running? Jogging? Or just fast walking?

I've been walking on the treadmill at 3.0 mph and every five minutes I run for 1-1/2 minutes at 4.3 mph. I feel like I'm running, but the exercise database in MFP doesn't list a 4.3 mph running. It only lists 4.3 mph fast walking, so that's what I've been putting it down as. Is the calorie burn the same whether it's walking or running since it is as the same mph?

I'm pretty sure it would be the same burn. Does your treadmill allow you to input your weight? Treadmills aren't the most accurate for calorie burn, but they can get pretty close and if you compare it to MFP, you'll have a good idea.

I can put my weight in, but I walk for 3.5 minutes and run for 1.5 minutes, so the total calorie burn at the end is an average. I've been inputting it into MFP based on the exercises in the database. I just wonder if 4.3 mph fast walking is the same burn as 4.3 mph running.
  • The only way to really be able to tell is to buy a heart monitor..

I know nothing about them though. Going to look into it whenever I get some money saved up though.
