Hello All. I have, in the past, been able to run up to and above 5 miles. After having my two kids I am trying to get back into running. However I have had some issues. Lately I have had this straining feeling along the outer edge of my right foot. It is almost the sensation of a charlie horse, a slight burning, well .. straining feeling. I have stretched my legs, bought 85$ sneakers.. but after my first mile it is so irritating that this is what i focus on. Also, From my pregnancies I am suceptible to sciatica. I get it all the time. Lately while running, I feel that tensing in my lower back (that I call my triangle) right above my tail bone. The muscle that is in between my two back dimples (or if it is even a muscle) seems to even swell up. I can tell because my dimples become more profound. And by the next day i usually have some kind of degree of Sciatica.
Has anyone ever experienced this or have any ideas on some remedies or something I may be doing wrong?
I used to go to a chiropractor and that really helped. But I just cant afford it right now.
Im open to suggestions!

You may have a stress fracture in your foot. I had one once and I needed to do non impact stuff for a while to let it heal (stationary bike, swimming, etc.). I had been running on the street, and it's just too hard, and there is usually a crown in the road, so it's always a slight slant which strains the foot. I have since made a habit of running on dirt trails whenever possible (more cushion and more fun), or be sure to stay in the center of a paved bike path to avoid the slant. Good shoes certainly helps. Not sure what to say about the back, but it sounds like a visit to the doc is in order for both. Good luck.0

Did you find out about the stress fracture from a doctor? I have a PT test coming up for the military in April and Im freaking out becuase this has been hindering my progress completely! 6 Weeks and it hurts to do pushups and to run. Even sit ups suck sometimes.0

Pay attention to that pain and don't run with it. I did that and I did myself a grave injury. If you cannot see a doctor (not a chiropractor), take ibuprofen regularly and give it a rest for a couple of weeks to see if it improves. You also may not be in the correct shoes. Expensive or not! You can get a free evaluation at a good athletic shoe store. You may have the wrong shoes, particularly since you have that issue with your back. It could also be technique that may be corrected easily, the store personnel should help you with that, too.0
