4 pound weight gain overnight?

So for the past couple of weeks I've been working really hard to lose weight. I've completely reconfigured my diet and I've been exercising at least 30 minutes 4-5 times a week. Within the first two weeks, it felt like the weight was just falling off.
I had planned on weighing once a week, and so Thursday morning I got on the scale and was ecstatic to see I had lost 6 pounds.
The next day I was feeling extremely confident and wanted to see the number again so I got back on the scale, same time (first thing in the morning) and my weight had gone up 4 pounds literally overnight.
What are some possible reasons for this?
I hadn't changed anything in my diet, I even did 60 minutes of Zumba the night before. The only thing that changed was the fact that I started drinking much more water on Thursday during the day. I used to drink maybe one glass of water a day, but I've really stepped it up and started drinking 6-8 glasses. Could drinking 8-9 glasses of water affect my weight by 4 pounds overnight? Or is this something else?
Thank you.

If you had only been drinking one glass of water per day perhaps that had something to do with the gain. Also I've heard exercise can cause some water retention. How has your salt intake been? I know if I have a high sodium meal I will gain temporarily.0

How about you weigh yourself once a week instead of relying on that number for your reassurance. It is an unhealthy mindset to have. Weight does not remain static from day to day. If you know you are doing everything as well as you can, then really, you shouldn't be fussing over that number as it will take care of itself.0

Sounds similar to me, although its hard, and I do struggle to do this, the key is to weigh yourself once a month, or say to the hell with them and go by dress sizes or the inchs you are losing. Please dont give up, stay with us and we'll encourage you all the way0

I checked out your diary -- your "gain" is very likely water retention. You ate quite a bit of sodium yesterday in the hot dogs and ham. Just drink lots of water, and it might help you to start tracking your sodium through MFP as well :-).0
