I don' t have any chocolate chips on hand. Do you suppose it would still taste good without and if so how many cals would I be saving?

You can leave the chocolate chips out if you want.
You might save about 46 calories per brownie.

They are still great even without the chocolate chips. Although if I had them I would still put them in for that extra little melt in your mouth taste. So Yummy!

I didn't personally care for them, so I tried this instead. There are a few more calories and it's not real sweet, but I'm after the darker chocolate and not the sweet flavor. This makes a very heavy cake. But not a bad flavor.

    Mug Cake:

    1/4 cup all purpose Flour
4 Tbsp. Sugar (truvia) 6 pkgs
    2 Tbsp. baking cocoa
    1/4 cup egg substitute
    1 Tbsp. Fat Free milk
3 Tbsp oil (blue bonnet lite)
    1/4 tsp vanilla
    choco chips (optional) 10 chips

    Mix all ingredients together
Spray a large coffee cup with non-stick spray, Pour in cake batter, Microwave on high for 5 minutes, add cool whip or frosting if wanted (after it's cooled)
Split in half and share with someone if you are so inclined.

My SIL made this once and it tasted a bit rubbery! Do you find that?

I never made the original recipe, but I found the texture of this cake to be better than the brownies (unless I messed something up with those). My husband says it was a touch rubbery, but a lot better than the brownies. I'm going to say that it's probably an individuals preference. I have never found a recipe that was low in calories and fat and tasted like the real thing. When I need a chocolate fix, this will work for me.
