A Lady question

When it is the time of the month for you do you seem to loose more that week or less? Also how much do you gain during that time?
Also, I have problems with my balance during this time...what exercises do you do that week? thanks in advance

General consensus from what I have seen on this site is that *most* of us gain... so its pointless to even try to weigh during the week!

To answer for myself- I usually begin to retain more the week before and until it ends, it seems like I'm stagnant. Then I'll weigh myself a day or two after it has ended and I'm back to normal or, if I'm luck, down a bit!

I try not to weigh myself during that time because I am typically bloated and retaining a lot of water weight. After though, I seem to drop a pound or so. Yoga is really helpful for stretching, relaxing cramps, and keeping some of the muscle that may soften if you don't feel up to going to the gym, (I typically feel really tired during that time).
  • Last two months I've held even through it, but not lost either. Happy enough not to gain!! I recently quit diet sodas and I think that made it so I retained less water.

I too have problems with balance and turn into super clutz during that time. I find my elliptical is the most helpful or walking.

I find that I can do the same exercises (circuit training, yoga, etc) if I make sure to: a) drink extra water and b) take a multivitamin with iron. If I don't do these things, I quickly lose strength, balance, etc, but since I began upping the water and taking a multi during that time I have been able to maintain a good level of activity.

Exercise is good for cramping. I know it seems counter-productive, but it works. Don't be surprised if you crave iron rich foods during this time, especially red meat. Take an iron supplement, if needed, or just eat iron-rich foods.

I've never noticed balance issues, but my cycle has been so screwed up for years that I honestly couldn't tell you what my symptoms are.

Just stay off the scale starting the moment you feel compelled to go to a convenience store at midnight for a chocolate bar. It's not real weight, so who cares?

In January, I gained over 7lbs on TOM - sodium was not the issue, just general hormonal stuff. I found when working out during my period, I shortened the length from 5 days to 3 days

This month, I lost weight on TOM which is strange to me.. I was visibly bloated though, sodium is about the same. I found both times I was very ravenous with food, having to eat about 100-200 calories extra per in day in the days before TOM.

I do circuit training, HIIT everyday and I pretty much don't have cramps anymore cause of it. If you know you are going to freak over a number on the scale, DO NOT weigh yourself during TOM.

I . Weigh 5-10 lbs more that week than after. I vote ignore the scale.

The week prior and the week during, I weigh in about 2 to 3 lbs LESS than normal. The week after, I'll be UP by a pound or two.

Then I'll be back to my median weight.

    Rinse, repeat.

At first I misread this as "I weight 5-10 lbs more the week after I vote. Ignore the scale"

I loose weight when this time comes each month. I have to run from my wife a lot more.
  • I wont measure or weight during that time, might end up committing homicide. Bash someone with the scale or strangle someone with the measuring tape.

Back in the day I would gain like 10lbs, but now, I actually lose weight, and I find it the best time for me to lose even more weight, its kinda weird haha.

My tummy sticks out more, i still exercise as usual. I just make sure i wear my black workout pants!!
  • i gain! (or maintain, usually one or the other)
i tend to eat a little more (about 100-200 calories a day), so i just try to offset this by eating back exercise calories and still staying under (and indulging a little each day to keep the insanity at bay)

uhmm water retention for me (and bloating) usually makes me gain about a pound or so
i just continue to weigh myself as usual (3 times a week, every other day)
about a couple days after the end of the *time of the month* my weight drops about a pound or so

what you gain during that time is water weight, not fat. If you're sticking to a healthy diet with a reasonable deficit, you'll continue to lose fat at a steady rate, regardless of what the scale is saying. Your body will later lose the water weight, so you'll see a drop on the scale at this time.

Try not to focus only on scale weight, but on fat loss. It's the changes over time that count, not the ups and downs of a few days. if your weight at a particular time of your cycle depresses you, try comparing it to your weight at that time the previous month, and the month before that, because that shows change over time.

I am only on my second full cycle weighing weekly. I have been losing heaps every weigh in except the last one at tom. I have just uped my calories at the start of this week as I was hungry and wanted to slow down a bit. Friday I felt really bloated. I hardly exercised last week and only worked three days due to a sick day (helping my husband with his medical issue) and we had no work on friday. I was really tired, so I started an iron supplement, but overall it was a lazy *kitten* week. The vistor actually came on saturday. I felt surprisingly not bloated considering I had a bigish chinese mealthe night before. Tomorrow I don't expect a loss. I have being under, but not as active as I should be. Next week I might lose a fair bit..... hopefully lol

I typically see a small loss, but not as much as usual due to bloating. Then the next time I weigh after the loss seems greater than normal. I have no problem with staying on track during that time, though, and I know some people do.
