Whats a reasonable time frame for me to lose 15-20 lbs?

I ask because I'm not THAT far from my goal weight. I'm currently 168 (5'7" med/large frame), and according to the stats, 159 is my cutoff before I'm in the "overweight" category. So that puts me at 9 lbs overweight. :ohwell:
That being said- I'd like to get to at least 145 or 150. I've been there before and maintained it for a while.. and I'm comfortable there.
I have my calories set at 1540 (up from 1200!) and I'll eat a couple hundred more on workout days.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Thanks in advance :flowerforyou:

Right now my schedule is terribly crammed so I try my best to get in 3 x per week of at least 30 minutes to 1 hour of cardio (elliptical or running) and resistance training.
Ideally I would love to average more or less 4-6 x per week but that won't happen until work calms down. Until then I'm just hoping I can make up for my lack of lots of exercise and still lose some weight by eating around BMR.0 -
I have the same goal, just a different starting weight than you.. I have given myself 3 months to lose 20lb (at a loss rate of 2lb per week) and I have 9.5lb to go. I have two kids, a crazy busy schedule as well.. seems like we have similar situations.
I would recommend doing HIIT for your cardio, short, sweet and you probably could get away with doing it 4x a week. Don't forget to incorporate lifting so you don't get that skinny fat look as you lose weight.
Ninerbuff probably has some great ideas of how to fit something into your schedule as he is a trainer.0 -
Thanks Dixie!
You know, HIIT seemed to help me a few years back shed 10 lbs or so in about a month and a half time frame. Not sure why I didn't think of doing that now. I used to get on the treadmill for 20 minutes at a time and jog then sprint every 30-60 seconds. then I spent the remaining 15-25 minutes of my workout doing weights and abs and maybe also 10-15 minutes on stair climber.
Man, I wish I had that drive now.. .maybe I need to print this out and take it with me!
Great job on your weight loss so far ! How long has it taken for you to lose the 10 lbs?0 -
3-6 months to do it right. Could be done faster but likely to lose lean body mass if you do; slower is better as we near our ideal weight range.0

7-10 weeks.. probably longer0

You are most welcome!
What you described doing before is what I do now, just in a different order. I lift first because I find if I do it the other way, I don't have a lot of energy for lifting after cardio.
I started working out seriously again on Jan 1st, hit the 10lb loss mark around Feb 11th so five weeks give or take? I haven't been hitting 2lb a week around TOM but I'm pleased with my progress so far.
P.S. I forgot my manners, thank you! :laugh:0 -
Thanks all for your feedback. I'm hoping that it can start to come off a little quicker (I've only lost 4 lbs since the beginning of the year), then again I've also not been exercising or as strict on my healthy eating as I should be to see fast results.
I guess even if it stil keeps coming off at 4 lbs every 1.5 months at least I'll have it gone by year end.0 -
You're exactly where I am right now! Well, I'm stuck at 162 and want to be 130, but at this point I'd take 145. I'd take anything! I'm lifting and doing cardio 3-4 times a week, and am going to star the JM 30DS in March, so I hope that helps. It seems like I just keep losing the same two pounds, you know? I'm on the Pill, too, so it also feels like no matter how hard I train I don't get any tightness or definition. Good luck to you!0

I have similar stats in that I was 14 lb overweight. My ideal is to lose 28 lb overall which gets me to a BMI of 22. Getting my body fat down is crucial as I had a blood test scare end of last year.
I lost the first 14 lb these last 2 months just through what I eat ( I eat around ) 1350 a day but try not to go over 1500. Rarely go under.
The last 14lb will need excercise to get it off and I think it will probably take me about 4 months to a year.0 -
