Rapid 'over night' weight loss?

Okay so I've just been weighing myself every now and then, not every day really because I find that I obsess over it far too much if I do that. And since last week I've lost around 3lbs, so nice, steady but noticeable weight loss.

However (this is where I get to my point) just a few days ago I weighed myself and I was 67kg/147.7 lbs. I weighed myself today and I'm 65kg/143.3 lbs. What is going on?!?!?!? Obviously I'm over the moon but, surely that can't be right? Unless I was retaining water when I last weighed in? Help!

I going to say that you've lost water weight, and to not be upset if you see a couple pounds come back in the next day or so.
  • Always weigh yourself first thing in the morning before breakfast, doesn't have to be every day, as you're normally the lightest you'll ever be just before you eat or drink anything first thing. I've seen my weight change over night by more than you're describing below, it's normal so don't worry too much. One of my friends will not log his weight changes unless he's seen the amount several times in a row.

I lost 6lb overnight once. Put new batteries in my scales and they all came back lol

But seriously, try calibrating your scales - new batteries, or weigh a bag of potatoes then try again. Sometimes they get themselves stuck!
  • A meal with high sodium, or as a woman certain times of the month will cause you to "hang on" to water. The guys are right though, I don't log a loss until it has showed up a couple of times because this happens to me quite frequently. Just always drink plenty of water and your body will get used to being hydrated, reducing periods of retention.
