Anyone out there use the Weston A. Price philosophy while losing weight? I've had the Nourishing Traditions cookbook for a long time because it is helpful with my son's combination of soy and dairy allergies. Most cookbooks use soy as the dairy replacement and vice versa. It actually gave us more options. Anyway, the philosophy is about nutrient dense foods. My question is, has anyone lost weight while eating this way?

Nutrient-dense foods...yes! Too often we focus on just cutting calories, and not looking at where the calories are coming from. It's hard on the body to restrict food; add high-intensity exercise and no nutrition to support either and you have a recipe for illness and injury.

Weston Price can be a little extreme IMHO, but some good points. He really believed soy to be dangerous, and there is some research to support his opinion, but other research for health benefits. Best bet is always to go for variety...too much of anything isn't good. Soy is phytoestrogenic (promotes estrogen in the body), so there's a lot of controversy. His research is from many years ago.

I like some of the newer books by Dr. Mark Hyman (Ultrametabolism is a good one) and Dr. Andrew Weill. Think they are accessible to the general public, and use newer research. WHFoods.com is also a great site for current nutritional information.
